But I have to be honest that my main problem with the place was the type of music. Downstairs was 100% grunge. Upstairs was a DJ playing terrible music that I guess maybe could technically be called rock. But they do draw a crowd that seems to enjoy it.
They tick most of the boxes on safety and service from my experience. Food was edible, bouncers seemed watchful but not aggressive. Waitresses were attentive and polite mostly. There is a minimum consumption per ticket, so make sure you distribute your orders evenly over both tickets if you are a couple.
Make a reservation and arrive around 9 if you want a table and dont like standing in line to enter.
I wouldn't call this a Rock Bar . . . unless maybe you refer to it as a Grunge Rock Bar.

We enjoyed music so much!!! (Bossa, samba, choro) so many locals go there.
What a historical place with pure joy of music. Who cares about services!!!
Some nights we could not drink any more, but we wanted to support the existence of that place, we tipped in.

The owner could explain a lot about the different beers and they were all very tasty.
Rio needed a place like this, hip, cozy great for having a drink with friends and with a selection of food.
The owner kindly offered some new appetizer he was trying out.

The location is slightly far so you want to go with friends. Split the uber.
Entry to this amazing club is only 20 rial.
To go upper levels its an additional 20 but tbh there was a way better atmosphere at the bottom, more dancing, less pretentious people haha
Drinks are unbelievably cheap here so a good night is ensured. 2 rial for a beer or vodka.
The DJs play decent music too not just constant samba or funk.

The highlight of the place is the live music, each time there was a different band of singers and musicians, all very excellent.

The place is situated at the heart of Lapa besides the world known attraction Arcos da Lapa. They then lock you in the venue until you pay the tab they con you in too or threaten to call the police on you. I would not recommend this place to any one as it is a tourist trap. Was busy but had a great atmosphere with good samba band and music. Had a simple Caipirinha which wasn’t the cheapest we had in Rio but worth it for the music and atmosphere.
Bar staff and the band were friendly.
Even tried our hand at dancing Samba which was a laugh!

I've known this bar since it opened and I can tell you as a man who likes gay places is the best type bar in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Certainly the best place for gay cruising in town and one of the best I know in the world. The locals are very friendly and the staff at the seven Cruising Bar are very well prepared. The place could be bigger yes, and sometimes it gets very full, but if it were empty we would complain, would not it? We would not have stayed in the area after dark without the local knowledge, because it looked quite earthy. We travelled to and from our hotel by taxi, and once our friends negotiated a table, we had a fantastic couple of hours there. The band was excellent and there was good food and drink. The atmosphere was very, very relaxed, with mainly full of local people, in couples or groups. - Deborah BGChicago, IL2 contributionsMy family, including my 16 y/o daughter and my 14 y/o son, went to the club on Monday night to see samba do trabalhador (Worker’s samba). It was from 4:30 to 10pm. We got there about 6pm. We got a bucket of drinks and some food from the food stalls there. It was hard to see the band from where we stood, but the music filled the room. As the night went on it got more crowded. We had a great time! The music sounded so good and so many people were singing along.
Note about getting there- we took the metro to the second the last orange line stop and then took a 7-10 minute Uber ride from there to the club.
