What travellers are saying
- Kevin SPontypridd, UK7,048 contributionsLike lots of places around the world, a victim of it's own success and expanding fame. It is not what it was 14 years ago. Yes it is still a colonial town with original cobblestone streets but it seems every building is now a restaurant, shop or hotel, not a normal town, not the locals sitting outside their houses chatting of years ago. Saturday night the streets were absolutely packed with people, restaurants full, noise everywhere, the romantic quiet restaurants now swamped with noise. And the owners. Now 10% cover charge, 10% tip, maybe tax as well, all on top of high charges, more than Rio for average food and poor service. At least by Sunday evening lots of day trippers and weekenders had departed and it was once again a more pleasant scenic place, where restaurants had more time to provide a better service, the sights daytime much more attractive and quiet. So the best advice, avoid weekends, public holidays and the busy season.Written 28 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Thaisa SchröederRio de Janeiro, RJ64 contributionsVery pretty beach! Lovely walk! Farily easy to get to. Car drive to Trindade, fairly good roads. You leave your car at the farthest beach point, there is parking for about R$20 the whole day. You walk by Praia do Meio, do a very little and light hike to Praia do Caixa d’Aço.Written 11 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The guy that told us about the different drinks made it magical. It was just more like a simple taste with his imaginary descriptions.Written 6 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Thaisa SchröederRio de Janeiro, RJ64 contributionsIncredible experience! We are from Rio de Janeiro, come to Paraty for our honeymoon. We saw some reviews of Saco so Mamangua and knew we just had to go. First, you must go to Paraty Mirim by car, it’s a bumpy drive and best if on 4x4 wheels. The road signs and pretty clear and there is really nowhere else to go but the main road. Once at the very end, there are a few places to park your car at about R$20 until 18h. There plenty of captains and boats to chose from, but we most definitely recommend Mateus! He is a young captain, born in one of the islands just off the coast, very experienced and knows every corner of the place. Respectful of our time and would let us very comfortable to enjoy each spot on our own time. All the captains charge the same price because they work together as a very tight community. We paid 800 just the two of us, visited every spot of the Mamangua area, stopped for swimming and jumping rocks, had lunch at Restaurante do Dadico - very fresh fish. Also did an hour hike to Pico Pão de Açúcar, Mateus leaves right at the beach where the trail begins and then will be waiting once your back. Totally worth it!Written 11 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Livia ChauarMilan, Italy150 contributionsI loved this place, it is very chill, comfy, and quiet. It is mostly people who are very laid back, there is no phone signal there, and the internet connection is not one of the best. This is a place for you to lay back and enjoy life as it comes to you. Many camping areas, some chalés, and places to eat. If you are looking for things to do, maybe this beach is not for you. If you want to relax with nature around you, this is the place!Written 9 January 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Kaitlin BarwickAustralia23 contributionsYou can travel from the first beach along through four beaches, Lula beach being one of them. I thought this one was the most beautifful beach of all of them, nice waves and sand. Very blue water. We even spotted turtles when we were there climbing around the rocks.Written 24 January 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - cazaresilMoraga, CA92 contributionsThis is the kind of place that can make a difference in the overall perception and rating of a trip. This is not Iguazu, Rio, or Lopes Mendes, but offers so much instead: a local vibe, a lot of fun, different "pools" and good food. Sliding in the fall itself is the main attraction, but for those less adventurous, you can also spend the day just bathing in the natural pools. You can easily spend a full morning or a full afternoon in this place. Some tips: if you are driving out of Paraty towards Sao Paulo state via this route make sure you fill the tank in Paraty. There are no gas stations in the Bocaina Sierra, and you will be spending a lot of gas due to the terrain. Parking is cheap and includes access to the bathroom. If you are somewhat deterred by the "risk" of this activity, don't worry. There are other "bathing" options. Make sure you bring your swimsuit one way or another.Written 24 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Gabrielle CValinhos, SP114 contributionsNice place to be with kids because the water is calm and it has few waves! The sand is clear and soft. We had a great time in the “Barraquinha da Leticia”, the food was great and she was REALLY nice to us!Written 1 May 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Dee HayesRichmond, VA10 contributionsParaty, is like a hidden place in the middle of nowhere is so far from everywhere. Like 4-5 hours from RIo, 2-3 hours from Sao Paolo. But once you get there you do not feel any desire to leave. The beauty of the mountains, beaches, waterfalls, ecosystem is unbelievable.
