I had an exceptional guide, Maria, who was able to get me behind the scenes the greatest legal institutions in Brazil.
Because my interest is more in the striking architecture, it was amazing that I was able to see inside these buildings that would remain closed even to Brazilians let alone a UK traveller.
My favourite was the ‘soft centre’ of the Supreme Court building which although appearing to be a hulk of concrete on the outside was an incredible light-filled building, with a gallery, museum and radiant chambers.
The Labour Tribunal showed us how even modern buildings need constant care and attention, and the hidden roof gardens and the Franciso Brennan tiles were a real find. It was great to be able to meet and chat to some of the workers there.
Maria was energetic and full of ideas and helped me pla my itinery for the rest of my stay in Brasilia. What a great morning!
