Fushimi Inari Shrine was absolutely enchanting. Walking through the endless rows of vibrant red torii gates felt like stepping into another world. The trail up the mountain offered stunning views of Kyoto and a sense of peaceful solitude despite its popularity. Each stop along the way revealed small shrines and stone foxes, adding to the spiritual charm. A truly unforgettable cultural and natural experience.

Kinkaku-ji, or the Golden Pavilion, was absolutely breathtaking. The golden temple reflected in the calm pond surrounded by lush greenery felt like a scene straight out of a postcard. The architecture is stunning, and the peaceful atmosphere makes it easy to just stand and take it all in. The gardens are beautifully maintained, and the whole experience feels serene and magical. It’s a must-visit in Kyoto and one of the most iconic spots in Japan!

An attractive buddhist temple complex in red-and-white, complete with pagoda. The original buildings dated from the 8th Century, but they were destroyed; still, their replacements are also old, from the 17th Century. A huge veranda offers photogenic views over the surrounding countryside. There is a bit of a climb up to the temple.

Amazing set of skyscenery..overlooking the Hugo river..quaint pathways to reach the beautifully nestled bamboo groves..it was easy as our tour guide took a ticket to enter the Japanese temple garden. Amazing thick cover..quite crowded..difficult to find parking..

Very interesting to walk round. We saw lots of great restaurants and also tiny shops up narrow alleys.

Gives a real taste of Japan.

This is a must-see. The highly decorated kara-mon entry gate is magnificent, and the building complex beyond is very impressive. The gardens are a pleasant place for a relaxing stroll. The most fascinating feature are the 'nightingale floors', wooden floors suspended above nails so that they squeak when walked on, warning the residents of intruders.

Worth it once you get to the top, but it’s a long steep climb. I’m 75 years old and had I known how steep the trail was, I never would have done it.
Monkey’s are cool and the scenery is amazing, but way too steep a climb for this senior.

    It is a magical place.
The main hall contains a big Buddha sitting on a lotus flower surrounding 1001 (!) standing golden Kannons (Goddess of Mercy) about human height made from cypress wood almost 1000 years ago. It's a shining army! The statues have 21 pairs of arms which symbolizes 1000 arms. There are different objects in the statues' hands. The statues have many faces (there are 11 small heads attached to the Main head). There are many other statues: G-d of Wind, G-d of Thunder, Heavenly Kings, etc. Some are playing musical instruments, some have wings, some have horse head on their head, some have fin-like brows, etc.
Unfortunately, you cannot take a picture there.
There is also a nice small garden outside.
    Allow at least an hour.

MAKE SURE TO BRING CASH! Cuz most of the places only serve cash! But what a place this was! It's called Kyoto's kitchen and you can see why, all of Kyoto's best food stalls are here, and from raw seafood to fried foods it's all here. Love going to these food markets because it's a culinary knowledge that you'll get to learn more about the city when you taste their food.

I wasn't familiar with this temple but I had seen it recommended in a travel guide. It was on the way from the silver pavilion so we dropped by. I was pleasantly surprised by how beautiful this temple was. It's very spacious so you will need some time to explore everything. Unlike Ginkakuji, this temple was almost empty, so we could really enjoy the serene atmosphere.

Bit of a walk from our hotel but worth it in the end.

The temple is stunning and the park is beautiful. There is so much to walk around and see.

It was a very popular spot and there was a good mix of westerners and locals.

Wandered through this area multiple times during my Kyoto visit. Since, I stayed in Gion, accessing this area was especially easy. This is one of the signature areas of Gion and gets very crowded especially during mid day. The cobble stone paved narrow alleyways lined up with multiple shops, restaurants and cafes gives this place its identity alongside the famous Yasaka Pagoda. This place truly shines after nightfall and the whole place gains a fairytale or manga atmosphere.

It’s a picturesque walk along a canal. Fall leaves color is a delight to watch. You can sit and enjoy the serene beauty around.

So much of Japan is of cultural and historical significance that it was a refreshing change to visit a modern, bang-up-to-date site which is equally impressive. The station is gigantic, built in black and gray granite and topped by a glass canopy above the concourse. There is a huge shopping centre, lots of restaurants and a long, multi-level elevator. The glass tunnel above the concourse offers a dizzying view of the whole edifice.
