- NFcaCarterville, IL264 contributionsVery nice outdoor activity for anyone although the climb is a bit strenuous. There are several resting benches along the way and it seems like you’ll never get there, but it is well worth it. Lots of snow monkeys mingling about amongst the visitors. If your interested in feeding, there is a small charge for food and it must be dispensed from behind a wire screen for the safety of the feeding visitors. Nice view of the city below. There is a small entrance fee to make the trek to the top. I recommend at least two hours for this activity. Easy walk from either train station in Arashiyama.Written 10 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Alice RHoi An, Vietnam3 contributionsThis was a really cool experience! The staff was extremely attentive and accommodating. I mixed up my dates when booking and they were able to reschedule us seamlessly. The samurai master taught us how to hold, swing and slice bamboo mats with a real katana. Afterwards, they guided us through a sound bath meditation that brought on the zen. Definitely worth checking out when you’re in Kyoto!Written 23 February 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - kumi L107 contributionsThe individual pass costs 2400 but for 3900, you can enter multiple times to 6 paid attractions that are usually around 500 per person each time… worth it!Written 6 April 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
The shrine is famous for bringing good connections and severing bad ones. Although the shrine is well-known, its precincts are not large, and it only takes about 30 minutes to make the rounds. Moreover, it's surrounded by condominiums, and its appearance is such that it is buried in a residential area, and if you do not consciously try to access the shrine, you may pass by it.
The hours of open for the purchase and awarding of talismans, amulets, and emas (votive picture tablets) and the reception of prayers are set (9:00 - 17:30), but the shrine itself is open at night and can be visited even at night (the shrine office is open even late at night during certain times of the year, such as Hatsumode).
The most famous spot of this shrine is the "Enkiri Enmusubi Monument," which has a hole at the bottom of the monument large enough for one person to pass through. It's said that if you go through the hole on the side of the approach to the shrine, you will break off bad connections, and if you go through the hole on the other side, you will have good ones.
The numerous talismans pasted on the "Enkiri-Renkou Monument" and the ema (votive picture tablet) hanging in various places on the temple grounds contain the wishes of various people for good or bad connections, and can be viewed freely, but I do not recommend viewing them with a light heart. In particular, wishes for the dissolution of bad connections are almost like curses, and often cause damage to the viewer's psyche (even if they have nothing to do with the wish). This may be one of the reasons why they are so effective, especially for breaking off bad connections.Written 2 March 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The lecture from chief priest was very interesting and there are many bell crickets. We heard the sound of the bell cricket. It was relaxing after that we walked to beautiful garden. The fee was only 500 yen including Japanese sweet and tea. I really enjoyed. It was crowded because there are many visitors, so I recommend you to go to cooler season.Written 17 July 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Marc S7 contributionsMy partner, Michelle visited this wonderful business today. Excellent experience from start to finish. Lovely girls doing hair, makeup and dressing. - Chawaw2017Samut Prakan, Thailand11 contributionsThese days there is little my 12 year old son and 9 year old daughter agree on, but they both absolutely loved this - as did my husband and I! You dress up in some simple samurai gear, learn some basic preparation chants and then go into the training. The guide made the lessons and scoring really fun for the shuraken throwing and dart blowing, so it never got boring. Then we went into the VR part, which everyone found challenging and fun. Highly recommend!Written 15 February 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Alexander K2 contributionsThis was one of the most incredible experiences I have ever had. As it happens, I forgot to write a review when I first went, but years later I still think about. The kendo itself was amazing, but what really set it apart was Tomo's review of the history, philosophy and culture. Truly transcendent.Written 7 January 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- DanandTheresa C1 contributionSuch an amazing experience for our family of five! What an exceptional way to see some areas of Kyoto with a friendly, informative guide. We are so so glad that we booked this tour and got to learn about this city on wheels! - BeckySpencers Wood, UK3 contributionsMy boyfriend and I visited today and made some beautiful trays. We were seated in the traditional workshop, and made our trays alongside the 4th generation family who run the shop, and have been making their artwork for over 100 years. Nick also showed us some of the beautiful pieces his grandfather had made which were exquisite, alongside all the beautiful newer pieces in the store! Nick was an incredible host, and very informative and accommodating, with excellent English. If you are in Kyoto, would highly recommend this class, it’s easy to book on the website and is only a 5 min walk from the bamboo forest and temples. Thank you again, Nick!Written 11 November 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
