Fushimi Inari is a must-visit destination in Kyoto, Japan, and for good reason! This Shinto shrine is famous for its thousands of bright red torii gates that form a tunnel up the mountain, creating a breathtakingly beautiful and unique experience ¹ ² ³ ⁴ ⁵.

Whether you're interested in history, nature, or spirituality, this shrine is a must-visit destination in Kyoto ¹ ² ³ ⁴ ⁵.

Walking around Kinkaku-ji is always enjoyable. I really think the Golden Temple is a true symbol of Kyoto.

There are also delicious shops near Kinkaku-ji, which is nice.

I was told that when tourists come to Kyoto, if they have to choose to see one thing, then they come here. Judging from the crowds on the blistering hot humid August day we visited, that is correct.
This place has two attractions in one (so to speak). The surrounding narrow streets Nienzaka and Sannenzaka that lead you upwards to the Temple are full of shops selling sweets, souvenirs, drinks and other assorted things. See separate review.
Once you finally get to the Temple, you have to pay admission and then you can wander freely. The biggest (picture) attractions are the wooden Temple terraces that provide a view into the surrounding forest and streets below. There are several terraces and temple sections to look from.
The Buddhist temple (meaning pure water) was founded many hundred years ago and is a UNESCO heritage site.
This was the third stop in a Viator private tour with Fuji. I would highly recommend his services because we could not have easily reached all the attractions we did in on an insanely hot day without a professional driver because all 4 places were at different corners of Kyoto.
Overall. Worth a visit, but come with some patience.

My favorite part of Kyoto. I definitely recommend staying in a ryokan in Arashiyama. It's so beautiful, the river and the views are stunning and you're right in the middle of amazing temples and the bamboo forest.

Very pretty and authentic. We really enjoyed walking around. I wish we rented the kimonos like many young couples. Kyoto is a real gem.

I wasn't familiar with this temple but I had seen it recommended in a travel guide. It was on the way from the silver pavilion so we dropped by. I was pleasantly surprised by how beautiful this temple was. It's very spacious so you will need some time to explore everything. Unlike Ginkakuji, this temple was almost empty, so we could really enjoy the serene atmosphere.

This one really surprised me, I didn't give it a perfect score because it wasn't as memorable as other moments of the trip, but it was one of the best temples we visited during the trip, the garden built around it and all the vegetation that surrounds it are extremely beautiful, it was worth every penny of the entrance fee.

Cute area packed with tourists (April cherry blossom season). Lots of shops, but we did not spend much time going into many of them. We only stopped for matcha tiramisu on the way to the temple. Saw the famous cherry tree before it fell.

Walked the southern end of the path during cherry blossom season. It was quieter than the keage incline (where we started from) and very peaceful. The canals are super cute. The cherry trees aren't as dense here, but placed throughout the path (at least on the southern end).

I would have liked to walk farther up, but we had other stops planned and left the path early. The exit we found was convenient to continue our walking loop around Kyoto.

The large grounds, with several buildings, make this an interesting temple to visit. I paid the extra money to visit Hojo Hall and the gardens, and it was worthwhile spending the extra time and money for this. The gardens were the highlight of the temple for me. This temple was surprisingly uncrowded in mid-afternoon.

Getting here was quite easy, by taking the subway (Tozai line) to the Keage station. From there it is about a 700 m walk northeast to the entrance to the temple.

This temple is also close to the southern end of the Philosopher's walk (it starts about 700 m northeast of the temple), so if you are already at the temple it may be worthwhile to combine this temple with a walk on the Philosopher's Walk for a nice half-day excursion, with possibly the Eikando temple also added since you will walk right past it.

The temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the Sōgen Pond is very nice. Unfortunately there were too many visitors when we were there. Not only it takes away some enjoyment but make photo taking a bit challenging.

Nice little morning stroll and impressive bamboos! Really loved to see some nature and it’s easy to reach by bus too.
Spent a couple of hours there with a delicious lunch on the water front.
    Not too crowded either.

We came to the Shrine to view and photo the sakura corridor lining the Okazaki Canal. The Otorii for the Heian Shrine stands at a cross roads near the bridge over the canal. The bridge is a favorite spot for bridal photo shoots and in the short time we were there, we were treated to several of these.

Rather than entering the shrine, we walked along the canal photographing the sakura boughs which draped into the water. The north shore was especially lovely. Every once in a while a tour boat would ply the waters.

Continuing along the canal for some time, shooting as we went, we finally arrived at Nanzen-ji.

A pleasant way to spend a few hours.

This garden is located just out of Road of Bamboo Forest, and a few minutes walk from Tenryuji. This garden is not cheap (JPY 1000 admission for adults), but high chances to enjoy tranquility for mindful walking. The path winds through tall hedges just wide enough for a single person to walk. You can see a great view of the city and of the mountains. Free drinks, including hot and cold tea, orange juice, apple juice, are available, in the teahouse to rest.
