A must do in Kyoto! Having that said, I would recommend getting there super early or otherwise keep climbing the hill in order to reach more Tamis for pictures with not so many tourists walking around!

This place is nice but not a must. It has a five-story Pagoda (the tallest in Japan), Kondo (main hall with 3 Buddhas), Kodo (a hall with 21 Buddhas, one of them is riding an elephant - no pictures of Buddha image is allowed), a small garden, and Kanchi-in Temple (house interior consisting of almost empty rooms with tatami mats, sliding doors, and an ink painting of attacking eagles on the wall - take off your shoes at the entrance).
    Allow at least an hour.

Its very pack with people. You would need to pay to go in and from there, you would be able to walk around the place and this is where you will get the wonderful picture of the verandah area.

If you get an opportunity to visit this temple you must. We were in Japan for 20 days and this was hands down our favorite site. It was so peaceful and the views were stunning. It was not crowded at all which surprised and thrilled us.

Visited this famous Sake brewery after climbing Fushimi Inari which is a short subway ride of 2 stops.
Tickets are ¥600 inclusive of a sake souvenir cup and 3 sake sample token.
Informative video introduction to sake brewing in this area.
Follow by walking through the Exhibit of the various brewing equipment and materials.
Can drink the water used to brew sake in the garden courtyard well fountain.
Highlight of the tour was the sake sampling and explanation by the sake sommelier.
Each visitor get 3 sample tokens and can purchase more at ¥100 each if required.
Can purchase the sake at the well stocked store.

A very enjoyable experience. I love going to the races in Australia and was quite excited to be able to attend a race meet in Kyoto. I was fortunate to be there for a Group 1 race. I would thoroughly recommend a visit for anyone who is a regular race goer, because even though very little English is spoken everyone is helpful and extremely kind and courteous.

It was a bit difficult to find, but when found it was amazing. It was really quit, only 3 other people were there. It was the most beautiful temple I saw in Kyoto. The garden is beautiful, and the viewpoints were everybody here is talking about are really one of a kind. Entrance is 400 yen, if you want some matcha (really recommend) it's 500 yen extra.

My family had an amazing experience at the Ramen Factory in Kyoto. The staff was super nice and so organized. They were engaging every step of the way and made it a fun and enjoyable time for all of us. The end result was a big, delicious bowl of Ramen. Yum! I highly recommend going here to learn and experience the art of ramen making. It is a great way to spend a fun time with your friends or family.

a return visit to beloved kyoto, this time with our good friend who was born in kyoto as our guide of her fav temples.
had finished the kumano kodo hike and wanted to visit kyoto one more time.
we stayed at our friends timeshare and popped in here, the first temple of the day's exploring.
it stands at the foot of mt. higashiyama and tsukinowa, and built in 1219.
it is also called mitera, the imperial family temple.
    not memorable.
thats ok, there are many hundreds of others to see.
we visited in oct. 2019 and due to covid its taken me this long to write about our experiences.

We have visited Daigo-ji by early April this year and took a few photos on the National Treasure Goju Tower prior to visiting other parts of the temple. Recommended.

The 18-sake tasting was fantastic and the perfect activity for a large group (we had 6). I was able to make a reservation online in advance for a table. Each couple shared the 18-sake tasting and it included a great range of local sakes with information in English. We were also able to order food from any of the stalls in the building from our server and have it delivered to the table.

The castle looks really good from the outside. Sadly the inside has been closed since 2003. The grounds need to be maintained more but that didn’t ruin a pleasant day trip to see it. If you’re in Kyoto for a week I recommend at least paying this and the Meiji Emperor Mausoleum a visit.

This was the first temple our guide took us to, one that is basically tourist free and it is such a peaceful temple. We were basically the only ones there. The Monks were busy when we were there, we could hear them but they were not to be seen. The Zen garden is beautiful. It is a lovely temple to sit a relax over looking the garden.
