We're Americans traveling in Japan and wanted to do something unique. Everyone visits temples and eats ramen... but how many people can say they did a GHOST TOUR through a bamboo forest late at night?! The tour company advised not visiting the bamboo forest before the ghost tour, because it's best to experience the forest for the first time during the tour. I agree with that recommendation—wait to visit the forest until during and after the ghost tour. I will say, we accidentally passed through the area surrounding the forest a few hours before the tour. It was filled with tourists, and we were worried that the ghost tour would be surrounded by other people. When we went back to the area for the tour, it turned out that all the tourists were gone, and we had the forest all to ourselves. So cool!! And so spooky. Aaron shared some spooky stories—some (or all?) of which were true crime stories. He also shared some urban legends, spooky stories from Japanese history. Typically, horror movies and haunted houses aren't my thing, but I really enjoyed doing something unique while traveling.
And, without giving anything away... there was one part of the tour which was SO SCARY and DEFINITELY worth doing!!
