Very personable, good quality. Definitely worth the trip - the store is on the second floor of a building in a small lane but an online map can find it.Written 21 October 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Emily155 contributionsReally friendly excellent service. I reserved the bikes in advance which was really easy to do and the morning we arrived the man who greeted us was so lovely. He gave us a map and helped us to understand which roads are not allowed to use bikes on.
We hired two e-bikes for two days with the long battery life as we planned to use them a lot. We rode to a lot of places: Arashiyama Bamboo forest, Otagi Nenbutsu-Ji, Fushimi Inari, Pontocho alley, Philosophers path, Okazaki-Jinja shrine, and Kinkaku-ji. We still had 60% battery life when we handed the bikes in! To be fair we didn’t always have the electric turned on because we enjoy cycling but for some hills it was needed.
Really good prices and great service. Really enjoyed cycling around Kyoto.Written 9 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We decided to do a morning bike tour of kyoto and had an absolutely amazing time. Naoki was a fantastic tour guide and we learned so much about historial Kyoto and Japanese culture that we would have missed otherwise. Highly HIGHLY recommend checking out his place for bike rentals, tours, or recommendations while you are in Kyoto. He brought ice cold water for us and ice cream to enjoy in the middle of the tour, and made us coffee afterwards. You will not regret it!Written 21 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Anastasia KooPerth, Australia10 contributionsThere are many kimono hires in Kyoto area, but I found this to be one of the cheaper ones.
The ladies at the place were very efficient and quick with dressing and undressing us! They took their time in choosing what kimonos would suit us and could match with our spouses! Despite the language barrier they were extremely forecoming and friendly. They did speak a little bit of English, and fluent Mandarin.
It is a little hard to find as it is on the 3rd floor of a back shop (you have to find the tucked in elevator) but was constantly communicating with us via FB messenger which was all good.
In the end they gave us a significant discount and offered to do our make ups and hair for free (just a hair accessory rental for some of us) plus earlier deductions.
I would definitely come back for this cultural experience and recommend REI to everyone!
Tips:
- for guys make sure you loosen your kimono a bit as the men in our group were walking like penguins the entire day
- in winter make sure you wear thermals, it is still fine without but for those not used to the cold extra precaution is good
- the sandals are quite painful and dont offer much support! So plan to not do a whole lot of walking in them and visit nearby shrines as they are literally just pieces of wood with cloth!Written 14 February 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We were dressed in Kimonos then taken through the historical and mindful ‘slow dance’ of the tea ceremony. A great way to truly experience this significant part of Japanese culture. Afterwards you are given some hours to go ‘out and about’ in your Kimonos but that wasn’t something we felt we wanted to do, so our delightful hostess took time taking pictures of us in and around the amazing 300 year old Samurai residence instead. So so worth doing during a stay in Kyoto.Written 27 February 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- JinevivestyleLake Elsinore, CA14 contributionsIf you aim to experience the ultimate kimono experience, head nowhere else but Wakana Kimono Rental.
All the ladies are very professional, very friendly, and they have a vast array of selections. They give you great recommendations as what to suit you.
For you ladies, they have great hairstyles to choose from.
Highly recommend this place as this is a cross street from the famous Yasaka Shrine. No need to walk far to capture the great Japan photo with your Kimono. You only need to walk 1-2 minute to reach the entrance of this shrine. Ever corner of this shrine will guarantee you picturesque shots.
Special thanks to Tei-San, Sayona-San, and Nanami-San. You ladies are awesome. Keep smiling.😊💕Arigato gozaimas for my birthday wishes and the great photos you took. The staff helped us choose our outfits (there were so many!) and get dressed, everything was very smooth. The photographer took nice pictures of us, they made lovely memories of our trip.
