What travellers are saying
- HotRodHeartFrance137 contributionsI went there twice and the staff was always helpful and spot on.
I asked about the location of a ramen restaurant I had spoted, but the staff knew a lot about ramen and pointed me to 2 shops that were closer and very nice.
The second time to find a place to watch the autumn foliage. They had all the info from time to get there to how advanced it was at each location.
It is quite crowded though, but there's many staff so the queue goes by at a reasonable pace.
If they ever read this, thanks for your help :)Written 7 August 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. In this museum you will learn on the ground floor how the Japanese language evolved from the Chinese Kanji. On the upper floor you can try some exercises to test your knowledge of the kanji. The English audio (500 yen) is recommended if you do not speak Japanese.Written 17 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - PaulChiangMaiChiang Mai161 contributionsThis was a great find for us! We stopped a few times and the man and woman working the front desk could not have been more helpful. Everything from helping us figure out the subway and bus lines to securing reserved seats on Shinkensen trains to Hiroshima and Fukuoka. I worked in the hospitality business for many years and its very difficult to find people this helpful and friendly in, what was for them, a foreign language. Bravo! Highly recommended. Its just across the street from the front entrance to the Kyoto Train Station.Written 21 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - mafischlHuntington, NY3,307 contributionsMy wife and I were looking for a place to both eat and cool down after finishing the Philosopher's Path. It was a really hot day and we couldn't find a reasonable place to eat when we stumbled upon the International house. It has a lovely restaurant on the second floor. It's a really interesting place with all sorts of services. Has to be a tremendous asset to the local community.Written 11 May 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - badmintontimHastings, UK4,534 contributionsAs most places in Japan we found that this also had the same issue with the staff having not perfect English although one would expect this in a Major Tourist Information centre
Saying that we did receive the information that we needed and went on our way
Beware that unlike Europe this Tourist Information centre has very limited opening hoursWritten 30 March 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Hilary GBerkhamsted UK82 contributionsTruly moving experience. We were dressed in Kimonos then taken through the historical and mindful ‘slow dance’ of the tea ceremony. A great way to truly experience this significant part of Japanese culture. Afterwards you are given some hours to go ‘out and about’ in your Kimonos but that wasn’t something we felt we wanted to do, so our delightful hostess took time taking pictures of us in and around the amazing 300 year old Samurai residence instead. So so worth doing during a stay in Kyoto.Written 27 February 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
