I took a pottery class in August 2023, together with some friends. The class took place in a small workshop in a very pleasant atmosphere. The instructions where simple and totally comprehensive. The instructor gave us lots of choices and examples, what we could produce, and was helpful, if we needed a hand :-). The conversation was in japanese only, so if you don't speak japanese, you will need an interpreter.
After the class it took several weeks, but today the result arrived, very carefully packed. The experience of producing an own teacup was fantastic, so that I definitely want to repeat it.

I found their workshop by looking up painting activities in Kyoto and I am very glad that I went here! Yusuke-san and Yoko-san are such a kind & lovely couple; they made sure I was very comfortable during my session (I was alone). Yoko-san also gave me treats and tea for when I take a break and once I’ve finished painting.

I can see Yusuke-san's passion for his paintings and I will definitely go back again next time I’m in Kyoto (end of the year!). I love the patterns and have a greater appreciation for kimono designs. Thank you so much for a great experience :)

This was a great experience, the instructors spoke good English and gave clear instructions. We loved the location by the temple and that we could have our pots sent back to the UK. Highly recommend!

service was 10/10, the employee spoke good english and explained everything in a friendly and good manner, I didn't know that you have to put your hand to making the ring yourself, but it was a good surprise. was fun and you don't see it anywhere else. Since I'm not very familiar with rings, I can't say anything about the price, but I will appreciate the ring more because I helped to create it myself.

Really enjoyed the traditional Tamahagane knife forging workshop, organized with Tradi! Communication was easy, friendly and very responsive to all my questions, the workshop itself was amazing - really loved learning about and trying traditional Japanese forging techniques with an amazing and generous master swordsmith! Thank you!

I was looking for a Ryokan to stay at in Kyoto and stumbled across Kinse Inn through curatedkyoto IG. Unfortunately they were all book for the weekend due to Golden Week but their website had a page on ikebana which was an activity I was also looking forward to do in Kyoto. Although there were plenty of ikebana workshops available elsewhere, I specifically chose this because Seanacey could speak English fluently and I knew I would have a lot of questions about Ikebana and traveling and living Kyoto in general. This workshop was very enjoyable and I learned about the history of Ikebana as well as the different schools of thought on the practice. Seanacey started off the workshop introducing the foundational elements with the traditional style and during the second half gave us creative freedom to experiment freestyle. I appreciate that we were also able to take the flowers home to continue practicing. If I had more time, I would definitely spend some time in their cafe for a cup of a coffee.

A true highlight of our visit to Kyoto. This is a beautiful little place with a range of woodblock prints and products. We felt very privileged to meet one of the artists and learn about the ukiyo-e process. They were very gracious and welcoming. We purchased a few products including a small original of a pagoda, a larger Hokusai reproduction, and an artist's design sketch of another Hokusai (Great Wave). Very fair prices for the artistry! We love having such amazing pieces to remind us of our visit. We look forward to returning one day :-)

I participated in a wedding ring making experience. The workshop was adorned with beautiful interiors, creating a comfortable space. The support from professional craftsmen allowed me to confidently engage in the process. Moreover, the craftsmen's final touches ensured a beautifully finished product. In commemoration of our honeymoon in Japan, we engraved our names in Kanji on the inside of the rings. Thank you for an unforgettable and special experience.

My husband always wanted to try the pottery wheel. With Kyoto being a historical pottery center, and the home of tea ceremony, we chose the 40 min session and i chose to make a matcha bowl. My husband opted to make a vase.

Like any activity, it will be more fun if you go in with a bit of preparation.

We knew that we wouldn’t be leaving the shop with finished pottery because firing and glazing requires several additional steps. We also knew that we’d be learning and making something basic - with help.

The shop potters/teachers are super-enthusiastic, and knowlegable. I came in with a leaf that i picked up on a nature walk and asked to press it into the finished bowl, to create an embossed image in the finished product. Unlike most customers, i also wanted a more rustic look to my piece - not perfectly round, not perfectly smooth... and they were very accommodating.

We love our finished pieces, and in fact we loved the experience so much we’re planning to take a class at home!
