- Nili S13 contributionsAfter several days of non stop walking we were determined to find a foot spa to massage our troubles away. Arashiyu turned out to be the perfect fit. We had our hotel call to get us an appt ( though they do take walk ins) . We arrived on time and were ushered to our seats to unwind and wait. While we waited we began with a hot water soak ( you can select your bath preference) The rest fell into place and before I knew it my eyes were closed, my head was back and the rest was pure heaven. The staff is lovely and caring. The place is small and simple. Try and be mindful when you enter and whisper. People are resting. Before we left we booked for another day the same week. Loved this spot!Written 16 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Tom GParis, France16 contributionsA tattoo tolerated sento where you can warm your insides, clean your outsides, and have an authentic non touristy experience. There are instruction printed in English, so don’t be shy! Well worth a visit to revitalize yourself.Written 11 May 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Tanya T.Illinois1,658 contributionsIf you're tired after walking around Arashiyama, this hidden gem is right in plain sight! We learned about this spot from a tour guide, and it provided a nice respite after touring for half a day. For only 250 yen, you can purchase access to a foot bath at the information booth inside the station. The purchase includes a towel that you can keep as a souvenir.
Before entering the foot bath, there's a small area where you can wash your feet. There's no soap provided, so it's more of a rinse to remove any loose dirt or debris. No eating or drinking is allowed in the foot bath area, and they ask visitors to limit their soak time to 15 minutes to allow others to enjoy it as well. The area can accommodate around 12 people, but it wasn't crowded during our visit.
This is actually a type of hot spring foot bath, designed to help you relax and rejuvenate tired feet and legs. After hours of walking, it felt heavenly to take a load off and soak our feet in the warm, soothing waters for a while. It's the perfect hidden oasis to recharge before continuing your Arashiyama adventures.Written 18 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Only 30 min from downtown Kyoto but it feels very remote in a beautiful mountain setting. Riding the electric train up the mountain is part of the fun. Outdoor onsen is wonderful and very serene. We also enjoyed the indoor bath. Restaurant serves good food. A wonderful way to spend a rainy and cool January afternoon.Written 9 January 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Mathilde HAmsterdam, The Netherlands15 contributionsIt is a nice, no nonsense place, bit hard to find and from Gion a bit far but it is so good to be able to visit for bath for a decent price (around 450 yen) and with a tattoo. Several hot baths, a sauna and outside a beautiful cold bath.Written 11 October 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - BeccaSingapore, Singapore95 contributionsWe spent a good afternoon here after visiting the Bamboo forest. We love the Onsen and the lunch in the restaurant. It was a great getaway from the crowd in Kyoto. Wish we had more time to simply relax in the Onsen. Will highly recommend this place and will come back again when I visit Kyoto the next time!Written 16 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - SwanseaFoodySwansea, UK518 contributionsThe Kinkaku-ji golden temple is worth a visit if you are in the area.
It can be a pain to get to and get home from depending on where you are staying.
We were staying in Gion which was quite a pain requiring long local bus rides to reach.
Once there however, you are treated with amazing views of the temple. It costs approx ¥500 to enter the area which is not too bad.
As with all temples and shrines, it's just a shame you can't enter it to experience it fullyWritten 24 April 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Me and my 17 year old daughter did not have a prior reservation and were able to walk-in and sign up for a 1 hr massage. Our massage therapists Sakura and Aoi were unbelievably good! I have had hundreds of massages before and this has been THE BEST so far. Both Sakura and Aoi customized our massages to relieve all our pain points without even giving them prior information about them. Sakura kept using different techniques that were specific to areas she felt needed attention. My daughter also had the same experience with her therapist. I would highly recommend this place!Written 5 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Ed HOntario, CA114 contributionsAfter walking all day a nice hot foot spa is in order. Yes, the water is hot. It takes a while to get used to it. Very inexpensive. Around $2. You get a small towel to dry your feet after the spa. Go to the information office to get your tickets. The info office is in the food court section. Don't forget to enjoy the Kimono Forest and Bamboo Forest in the vicinity. Our stay was before the pandemic so no masks or hand sanitizers were required.Written 15 August 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Sento is a public bath that anyone can use by paying an entrance fee.
The origin of Sento can be traced back to the Kamakura era, when monks opened the shrine baths to the public.
The bath is divided into areas for men and women. Usually, the entrance to the women's bath has a red curtain while the men's bath has a blue curtain.
First, you take off your shoes at the entrance and put them in the shoe cupboard.
You pay the entrance fee to the bandai (reception).
At the bandai, you can also buy amenities such as soap and a towel.
You have to take off your clothes before entering the bath.
You also have to wash your body before getting into the bath.
Sit down on a stool when you wash your body.
Be careful not to splash hot water around you.
Be sure not to put your towel in the bath.
Dry your body before going back to the changing room.
After taking a bath, it is common to drink a cold bottle of café latte while putting your hand on your hip.( We traditionally, haha!)Written 11 October 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
