Takashimaya caters to the well-heeled younger audience than their main competitor down the street Daimaru, who targets a more mature audience.

Therefore, they have things like the Nintendo 7th floor - a vast international draw.

The B1 floor is my personal heaven. They have food purveyors that are not usually in other department stores. They have little areas for smaller local brands that specialize in 'sourced in Kyoto' - the specialty spice blends, branded marinated fish, and Kyoto pickles. They also have all the other regular sweets and cookie brands as well.

We come here most times we visit Kyoto to source a few items that we can't be bothered to go to far-reaching places around Kyoto to buy. We rationalize that, while it is much more expensive than going to the local producer, we save on time and energy by just coming here.

    We will be going back.

Make sure you go to Daimaru proper, not Fiji Daimaru. That's the real deal in the department store area. Not Kyoto's finest department store for goods and services, but the food hall is better than that of any other department store in he area.

It is a branch of Takashimaya Department Store, which is beside Rakuseinu shopping center. Compared to Takashimaya at Sijo Kawaramachi, this one is much smaller. But the food area is quite good, and it becomes a core shopping facility of Rakusei New Town.

Lawson was one of our go-to convenience stores in the Higashiyama area of Kyoto. We picked up vegetarian eats, along with beverages, from here.
