- Takarasina2,276 contributionsIn the wake of our mid-August visit there, I would like to provide a few insights that I hope might be helpful.
The inclement weather may make a stay up there pretty uncomfortable. To avoid the elements, one could go directly one level lower, to the restaurant called Vertikal'. It would kill two fowls with one stone: satisfying one's hunger and enjoying the stunning environment because the place offers breathtaking views of the city too. Securely shielded by the panoramic windows.
We did it and adored every minute of our lunch.Written 24 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The place is mostly for us Russians, I'd say, because it embodies our repentance for the atrocities committed by the communists. It's hard for aliens to understand this anguishing feeling.
I really cannot say if I enjoyed it or not. It's different...Written 24 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I was walking along the wooden gallery built around that pit, and the eyes of every member of that family murdered by the communists incessantly followed me. Their portraits were done in such a way that one just couldn't ignore them. That sent creeps down my spine. The carpet of white lilies covering the place only amplified my horror.
Nearly every woman there was weeping. In a supranatural solidarity, the rain started. Chilling...
Although I give the location five points, I really don't know how to rate it correctly.Written 24 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The talks ended sooner than I had anticipated, so it was only natural for me to go and see the complex dedicated to the controversial man who loved my country so much.
I was overwhelmed with what I saw. Yes, people mostly go there to see his museum, but there's a lot to do at this place too. I wandered around and saw people reading books in armchairs, sipping coffee with cookies, shopping, and even playing ping-pong. As to me, I visited the museum, grabbed some grub at a café, and purchased nice souvenirs. The building is light-filled, roomy, well designed, and is a terrific place to relax.
Highly recommended. Our first President was born not far from this gorgeous city.Written 19 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I explored that museum in early August. It's not the Louvre, of course, nor Moscow's Tretyakov Gallery either but one may go there once. I'd specifically note a rich selection of Russian icons.
Do mind that parking close by is a challenge.Written 19 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I came to Yekaterinburg for business, the building is centrally located, so it's just impossible to miss it. There's so much written about it already that I'm somewhat at a loss as to what to contribute.
Well, maybe that it hosted Russia-EU summit in 2013 (sounds queer today, doesn't it?) and that it's not Mr. Putin's regional residence. Anyway, it looks unusual and is definitely worth a snapshot or two. Preferably in good weather, however.Written 25 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I loitered there in the middle of August and really liked the place, especially in the evening. The peaceful, laid-back ambience, street musicians noodling on their hardboiled instruments, couples nestling in the shade, street vendors selling some bric-a-brac a dime a dozen, etc. And, yes, a nicely illuminated musical fountain close by!
A can't miss.Written 25 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. From Ganina Yama it took me 50 minutes by taxi on a dirt road with plenty of water filled potholes to get here, something most taxi drivers in other countries wouldn't have accepted to drive.
Once at the parking it is a quite steep hike of about 10 minutes - with no signposts - through a forest full of granite boulders to the 347m asl high ridge with the unusual rocky outcrop. Since in August the area was full of mushrooms I saw quite a few people collecting them.
The about 100m long and 20m high rock wall is impressive. It is a phenomenon, which can be found also in other places such as at the 'Greifensteine' in Saxony's Ore Mountains. Geologically it is explained as liquid magma that penetrated into a crack of already existing rocks and solidified to granite, forming a dike. Erosion weathered away the surrounding rocks, leaving the hard volcanic center. Later chemical alterations along intersecting joints formed the 'woolsack' or spheroidal weathering of the granite, which we can very well see here.
The place is popular with rock climbers, of which one might encounter some, when visiting. A negative point are the many graffitis and signatures on this very special rock formation.Written 1 June 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jolly-StrangerRiga, Latvia93 contributionsI was surprised to discover such a great museum in Yekaterinburg. You can feel the devotion of the museum's founder to Vysotsky's work. A lot of original items on display. A must visit.Written 24 April 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- KodoDrummerBuenos Aires, Argentina70,639 contributionsBeautiful Orthodox Easter decorations on Vaynera Street. We especially loved the Easter Egg decorations made of magnificent roses. As can been seen of the frost on the roses, it is a cold Easter Day in Yekaterinburg.Written 2 May 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Tatiana BFlorida103 contributionsJust imagine for the moment: you spend all day shopping, visiting museums, and galleries or just was surrounded by many human bodies for some time of your day and need the break. This is the good place to make the rest stop and enjoy the view of something green, quiet and pleasant piece of nature on the middle of busy center. This is not place for architecture lovers, or history buildings but for somebody who can appreciate the simple nature of trees, grass, and clouds. You can observe local birds and small animals, smell the spring or just do yoga.Written 10 November 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
