The performance I saw was a ballet adaptation of a modern rock opera. The music was interesting and the subject matter as well. The performers were terrific. However, the building is in need of renovation. You could see the glimpses of its grandiose past. I hope that the theatre will receive some care because it is of high value in art, culture, and architecture.

If you are reading this in English this theater is probably not for you, since all performances are in Russian, although I do suppose that with a translated cheat sheet a musical like Leonardo might work, much as one might go to an opera in Italian without speaking the language but knowing the libretto and basically attending for the singing and, in this case, the dancing as well.

I've been to many performances at the "Theater of Comedy" as it is known in Nizhny. Some have been very good and entertaining and some utterly impenetrable. For example, their presentation of the musical "Leonardo" is outstanding and highly entertaining - terrific music, catchy tunes and a highly talented and energetic cast. Likewise, their performance as a musical of Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" is captivating, fun and highly entertaining. But then again every now and then they'll put on something that seems to strive for avant garde style, or wants to make a political statement or whatever and those to my taste have fallen flat. So, no, I wouldn't recommend this place for "serious" performances but for musicals and other light-hearted fare it is great.

The theater has superb facilities with supremely comfortable seating, like one's own private easy chair, and great sight lines from a well-sloped seating area. The theater is intimate. Music is recorded, not from a live orchestra.

Tickets are on the expensive side for Nizhny. You can easily spend 1500 rubles ($50) for a ticket to one of their bigger productions. Although the theater itself is superb the ancillary facilities are not the best. For example, the buffet is excruciatingly slow so you cannot count on a drink during intermission unless you queue up for almost the entire time and then quickly get a snack or a drink to rapidly inhale before heading back for the second act. A long wait for refreshments is probably all for the better since there is always a very long line, snaking out the door, for using the lady's restroom facilities.

Despite those quibbles if you like musicals this is a fine theater and recommended if you have some time for performances during a visit to Nizhny.

Kremlin which literally means a fortress is spread over an area of 28 hectares is in the heart of the Moscow city and the centre of attraction for all tourists. It was originally surrounded on three sides by rivers which are now underground. In the Cathedral Square inside, there are 3 Cathedrals one where children of royal family were baptized, the second where coronation of kings was held and a third where the members of the royal family were buried. The gardens inside the are are vast and very attractively laid out and maintained. The various buildings include the present Presidential office where Lenin and Stalin also used to reside, the building which was Communist Party's headquarters during Soviet rule and other government and military offices. We were lucky to visit on a Saturday morning to see the Military Drill for about 30 minutes which is held only once a week on Saturdays at 12 noon.
