The main temple itself is quite beautiful - be sure to seek out the wood carvings along the exterior fencing - along with a few smaller adjacent shrines. The steps are high and it takes some energy to get there. Meanwhile, the older Japanese are scrambling up and down. It’s an interesting place to visit if you like temples and shrines. This particular one is to a smaller “sect” within Buddhism and reminded us of the temple at Nikko near Narita. - MCCSouth West England, UK826 contributionsA walk through to Cape of Miho through a forest of black pines. Miho-no-Matsubara, a coastal pine tree grove, a forest path we walked through lined with pine trees (some as old as 200 years). The smell of the fir forest was sumptuous. Legend has it that one day a local fisherman found a special kimono on one of the trees. He took it down for his daughter but had not gone far with it when a heard in a sweetest voice asking for it back. He turned around to see angel who had been for a swim asking for it back. When he refused she began to sing how she would be back allowed in to heaven if she did not have her kimono. The fisherman taking pity said she could have it back if continued to sing as she floated heavenward. It is said that the smell of the kimono and the sound of her singing hangs in the forest to this day. Hagoromo is the tree of the legend of Miho where the kimono was found. The path to Miho shrine leads straight from the tree. Overcast morning detracted somewhat from the scenery as we entered. All efficiency at the terminal and we breezed through. Some good tourist information available, buses and taxis available for those heading to other destinations in the area. - William SKobe, Japan1,575 contributionsThe ropeway is easy to take. Tickets for a round trip and access to the temple can be purchased from a machine using cash or credit card. Access to the ropeway is well marked, the time for the next two cars is marked and people are well-behaved. The ride itself offers a nice view of the mountainside and tress. At the end of the ropeway is a beautiful temple. There are LOTS of steps, though, so if you are not fairly able then you might skip that part and just return on the ropeway. We enjoyed it. I don’t know if I would take kids, though. At the peak of the Satta-toge, the great view of the Mt. There's one main shrine, surrounded by several smaller ones. On the first of January, and maybe for a couple more days, the shop is open 24 hrs to buy the amulet/ porte bonheur/ gri-gri... whatever you want to call it.
The shrine is located at the bottom of a hill, where you can enjoy a nice stroll. Parking available on site, but it quickly fills up.

The unique part of this trip is u need to get a ride on a train to enjoy the scenic views.
One of the interesting fact about the train ride is, it has the steepest track in Japan! To climb the steep, the train uses the only Abt system rack railway in Japan. The Abt system is a type of railway with a special, gear-like rail.
The journey starts from Senzu station to Okuoikojo station. We drove to Sumata valley, where the Senzu station is. We parked our car next to the station. It is a small town, but there are small hotels, convenient shops, small cafe and tourist center in the middle of the town.
At the train station, we checked the time schedule for the train and then took the 1230noon ride.
We were lucky that we did it on weekday and there was no crowd. We had the train all by ourselves.
The train is clean and the staffs are very helpful!
The one way journey took about 1hr. Although the train moved slow, we really enjoyed our time, sit back and relax… by just enjoying the moment and the mother nature!.
During the changed out to use the ABT system, the staff showed us how the train got connected to ABT system and it was done under 5mins!
At Okuoikojo station, we spent a quick 20-30mins around the station. Followed by walking along the bridge, this is where you could see the beautiful Oigawa river!
We took shuttle bus to return to Senzu station, as we needed to head out to Kyoto on the same day. The bus ride only took us about 20mins. If u want to try the bus ride, be sure to check with the staff upfront, as the bus stop is not easy to find. Our driver took us here which was perfect -- so many seafood vendors and restos. Inside with an ocean view, we ate a perfect seafood lunch of tempera, sashimi, and sushi -- $17. I assumed that all was fresh and not frozen. Nihondaira is a popular scenic spot in Shizuoka with a magnificent view of Mt. Fuji. The coach is parked at lower level with few F&B & shops. We then ascend up the slight slope for about 10 mins, time was about 3pm.
The Nihondaira Yume Terrace was designed by Kengo Kuma & Associates, an outstanding building from a distance. We understand the beautiful wooden facility is made of wood sourced from Shizuoka Prefecture and definitely blends in perfectly with the surrounding landscape.
We took lift up to the 3F that features a 360-degree, all-glass observation floor. Be captivated by breathtaking view of Shimizu Port and Suruga Bay, with the majestic Mt. Fuji in the distance. There is also the beautiful view of Mt. Fuji displayed on the large monitor, juz in case the weather shrouds the Mt Fuji .
The octagonal shape of Yumedono – the Hall of Visions - particular geometry gave tourist the flexibility to have various prominent view of Mt. Fuji at various positions, while walking around. We took many photos indeed! We were just so lucky blessed with good weather.
On the 2nd floor, there is a lounge where visitors can enjoy seasonal teas and sweets, unfortunately we did not have enough time for this.. Our Tour Mgr told us that Visitors may enter the observation corridor at any time, regardless of the facility’s hours of operation or even on days when it is closed. If you visit at night, you can enjoy the night view of Nihon Daira, which is registered as one of Japan’s Nightscape Heritage Sites.
After an hour we left and continue our journey back to Tokyo (Shinagawa) …
There are many places in Japan with great views of Mt. Fuji and the last time for us was Dec 23 at Endoshima (a long distance away). We enjoyed a snack at Freely Restaurant and headed off to browse. Spent more than we intended and purchased the first additional suitcase. Very impressed with the assistance of shop staff, if an item was not sold in a shop, an assistant accompanied us to a venue which did. Discovered Sushi Alley as we departed but couldn't indulge as boarding time was nigh.
