- kperkins38Boston, MA400 contributionsCute sake brewery in old town if you are looking to try different types of sake. It is self-serve and you pay for a tasting and get a cup (and a bag to take it home). There were maybe 10-12 different types of sake you could try for 450 yen, which seemed like a good deal! You can also buy bottles, and I think full glasses if you just want to sit and enjoy it. There was a decent amount of seating. Overall good and cool experience.Written 27 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Junichi38Takayama, Japan114 contributionsThis is kind of small shopping center, located next to Takayama Green Hotel (10 min walk from JR Station), and you can find so many local products such as sweets, sake, crackers, pickles, etc. Free tasting is wonderful.Written 23 October 2015This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - jane GLondon, UK39 contributionsBeautiful shop - wide range of gifts at all prices. Bought some table mats, soft glasses cases and two DIY embroidery kits for friends who sew. Absolutely gorgeous old timber shop with clothing, fats etc. Could have spent half a day in it.Written 28 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Sid gSan Francisco, CA29 contributionsSnagged three fantastic light, effective and snazzy Santouku knives here. The shop is run by a sweet couple who were very patient with me as I texted back and forth with my friend in the US to figure out the knife she wanted. They gave me some handy advice and even showed me knives they had not on display. I only came in to buy one knife for my friend but I ended up snagging 3. Takayama is a quaint small town full of delightful craft shops like these.Written 25 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Siddhartha DNew Delhi, India15 contributionsWe stopped here after our trip to Shirakawa-go and Takayama! It's a quaint place in a lovely countryside setting. A bit difficult to get to if you don't have your own car. Thankfully, we had an English speaking guide who easily found the place. From outside one would think there is not much to buy but it's filled with delicious products. In typical Japanese style, they have achieved perfection! Stop and buy or you can sit and eat inside!Written 25 June 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- jane GLondon, UK39 contributionsGround floor has many stylish, unique takayama made (not imported from China) gifts, toys and home wares. We bought very beautiful local woodblock printed stationary items - pencil holders, papier mache trays and coasters unique to hida town. So many nice things, hard to choose. Upstairs is furniture but we cannot afford to ship to Europe. The shop is large and spacious with a frontage on the river morning market) and a cafe. Smaller entrance on the back shopping street. Do not miss. Truly lovely store.Written 28 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Yi QinSingapore, Singapore205 contributionsA bus stop en route to the shinhotaka ropeway with a shop selling souvenirs of Takayama and a food area for people to do some shopping or have food as this is a transfer terminal up to the ropeway. There's also a free public foot bath for travellers to rest their leg while waiting for their next bus. Views are amazing as the area is surround by the mountains.Written 23 March 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Theresa DPerth, Australia1,053 contributionsI am a big fan of pens and stationery so to find the Pen Shop IMAI today on a walk around from where I was staying in Takayama( 10 min walk from the station) was a delightful surprise. There are two wonderful floors of everything I like to see in pens and paper and some extras from local artists and craft people. The paper and pens I bought were beautifully displayed in the shop and well priced. I only had an hour for my visit but bought beautiful things that I will use and when I do will remember the many wonders still to be found in the Pen Shop IMAIWritten 1 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Your Travel Buddy SGSingapore, Singapore13,031 contributionsWe visited this traditional miso production shop that also sell shoyu (soy sauce). Understand that this shop has a very rich history. Tourists can choose to purchase the miso in different packages mix and match with shoyu as well. Interesting shop to visit along the old town of takayama. - Andy FDevizes, UK1,240 contributionsThis market happens every morning alongside the river bank. There are various stalls selling fresh produce, takeaway food, coffee, souvenirs. It's not huge but a big enough market to spend an hour or so there.Written 28 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - couteaufinWhitchurch, UK118 contributionsI came here for a quick browse before closing and noted that rabbits were the main subject matter for this gift shop. In the end, I chose a lovely tea shirt showing rabbits surfing on the Hokusai Giant Wave. A great shop with good quality itms in the interesting old part of the town.Written 4 July 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
