We had such a lovely experience on Thursday 27th of feb! We were picked up by an on time driver (which is not very common) who communicated our pickup time the night before (on whatsapp), and taken to ubud. His name was Darma (more about him (later) We met up with the cooking class group and went through a food market, learning about different foods and what they were used for. The our driver took us to the actually cooking class location. It was in an outdoor kitchen in a flat rice field! We started with learning how to make the offering boxes and how to fill them with flowers, which is a daily ritual in Bali. The organisation and execution of the class is one to be proud of! Never once was anyone confused or waiting. One task complete and next one began. Everyone got a go at everything, we all worked together And no cleaning dishes (thank goodness ahaha). Then we got to all sit together an have a lovely meal of the food we just made (with a free bottle of cold water)!!! It was delicious and even more special, we made it ourselves!
Next the cooking class ended but our fun was not over. Our driver Darma, took us to the tegallalang rice terrace and showed us around. He dropped us out the front, paid entry and then went and parked the car. Darma allowed us to stay as long as we wanted (which to be honest was just long enough to go from one end to the next because it was very hot!). Darma then moved us into shade, bought as both cold bottled water and then went and got the car.
Next stop was the monkey Forrest. Darma again bought our entry and parked the car. When he caught up with us he was explaining the monkeys. It was super helpful because a lot of the time you don’t understand the dynamics of the forest. He also visits the forest a lot so the monkeys are comfortable with him. The monkeys are too cute and it’s definitely worth a visit.
We then went home and Darma had a lovely conversation on the way home! Again I couldn’t stress enough how much we appreciate our driver and that he should get more work!
Thanks again Darma!
