The views from the riverboat are interesting but the most fascinating aspect is viewing the cremation site. You will never forget this scene! You’re not allowed to be physically present on the cremation grounds out of respect for those undergoing the process, but you can visit the site by boat as we did. Pyres burn all day long. Smoke, piles of wood, bickering dogs, cows munching on marigolds, and robed corpses create a surreal atmosphere not unlike what you might expect at the apocalypse. Wild.

A very peaceful and contemplative destination with monumental historical meaning, especially for Buddhists. You will likely see worshippers visiting from other parts of the world during your visit (Sri Lanka and Thailand for us), but even if you are not of the Buddhist faith, the importance of the site to one of the world’s great religions and the history it represents makes it a very special place. There is also a wonderful museum on the site with many historical statues of Buddha. You're allowed to take pictures with a true camera but not a phone camera. When Islam entered India centuries ago, temples and statues of people and objects from other religions were either destroyed or disfigured. This museum has many statues that survived the destruction and you can see just how rarely they were left unscathed.

This is the holiest of all the ghats. Well worth a visit. We went in the day and walked along. We came back at night and took a boat to watch the ceremony. This is a must do with many many boats crammed together.

Overall place is pretty safe but beware of shop vendors & local people who are always trying to make extra money off you. Place was very filthy & smelly. Garbage was scattered everywhere, cow poo & dog poo could be seen everywhere. Very noisy & populated environment. Good for those who enjoyed bustling & noise places. Clothes & food are very cheap.

An amazing experience to visit almost all ghats, Vishwanath temple, Man Mahal, etc. Awesome boat ride. The Vishwanath temple corridor built is unbelievable. The dedication, devotion and enthusiasm of all involved - PRO, Police, Trust, Panditji, maintenance staff including house keeping, shop keepers, boat operators- par excellence. A grand salute to PM Modi and all those involved in transformation.

The kashi vishwanath temple at BHU is a must visit. This temple is a replica of the original temple. One look at this temple and one wonders how the original must have been. The BHU temple is open and big and is a great tribute to the original. Over the years, it has gathered its own aura.

A very nice place, and very nice people. We were very welcomed. We saw the silk factory and the very nice handmade 100% silk scarfs. Good prices controled by the government.

Somit led us through a lovely relaxing yoga session at sunrise on the rooftop. He perfectly catered to our experience level and all finished off with a warm chai and chat.
Will be back next time I am in town!

A very wonderful experience all around. Manoj makes you feel comfortable right away and continues to check in during your time with him. It is clear from the beginning that he wants only to serve to the guests highest benefit. Having a massage is a great practice to receive and surrender and Manoj made it very easy to do so. He is very skilled and intuitive at what he does. I will most likely return again during my time in Varansi and would recommend a visit. 🙏🏼

I had an amazing time at this yoga class! He was warm, calm, and very attentive, explaining each movement in a way that felt natural and easy to follow. He always made sure I was comfortable and supported. The setting by the Ganges River made the experience even more special. it’s something I’ll never forget. I highly recommend this to anyone visiting the area. Thank you for everything!

Great position, near to assi Ghat. They are very kind and caring, also giving good suggestions: we bought some silk scarfs and a beautiful pashmina. The owner always recognized and said hello every time he saw us around in the next days, I find it attentive.

    Just wow!
Sona is not only an incredible talented cook, she cooks from the heart and with passion, and with that exact amount of humour and professionally.

She shows you in her own perspective how to make tasty home cooked Indian food, she gives you time to learn and the space for asking questions whenever needed.
Tips & ticks are freely given and her food secrets are getting shared...

If you are looking for that one cooking class, go to her!

I left with a happy belly and new gained knowledge about (street)food, Varanasi and Indian customs :)
