- srk-rkHyderabad, India270 contributionsWe visited this ancient and beautiful temple of Kaal Bhairav in Varanasi after visiting Vishwanath temple. Kaal Bhairav is regarded as Rakshak of Kashi. Temple was crowded but managed well.Written 15 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Jerry S8 contributionsBeautiful flowers, lily pond, many other statues. Contemplative, quiet scenery. Nice and clean, a welcome respite from Varanasi. If you go to Sarnath, don't miss this place. Statue itself was difficult to photograph in the mid-day sunlight, but I imagine it would do beautifully at sunset - the statue faces West.Written 23 April 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - gayathri sharmaMumbai, India19 contributionsThe only slightly redeeming feature of this place is the view from the outer wall of the palace. Otherwise it's a poorly maintained desultory place. The museum exhibits are dusty and barely visible behind dark enclosures. The collection of arms is impressive but displayed in a cavernous hall behind dirty glass enclosures. Hardly any explanation of anything and very little in English...that too after charging foreigners Rs. 200. The palace itself is nothing great ...not a patch on the ones in rajasthan..fort is a misleading term ..it's a biggish haveli with a wall around it. The outer part is on the river and the view is good but not worth the trouble of walking through the museum. A temple dedicated to the sage vyasa is on the premises and might be of interest to some. Overall it's avoidable.Written 19 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- sanju_222323New Jersey17,362 contributionsSituated on the rooftop level of the 300 yrs old Man Mahala (palace) in Varanasi, Manmandir ghat. it is locally known as the Jantar Mantar observatory built-in 1737 by the Maharaja of Jaipur, Jai Singh. The facility was created to help improve the Indian calendar and map-making.
The entrance to the terrace is closed due to covid, but the view is breathtaking. A walk around the terrace will introduce you to the different measuring structures. These include the Samrat Yantra, Laghu Samrat Yantra, Dakshinobiti Yantra, Chakra Yantra, Digansa Yantra, Narivalaya Dakshin, and Uttar Gola. Even if the observatory was built centuries ago, it is said that it can still be used with great accuracy up to this day that can even match modern astronomical instruments.
Due to other popular attraction in Varanasi, most tourists do not visit this historical landmark, Unlike its Delhi and Jaipur counterpartWritten 12 May 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - sanju_222323New Jersey17,362 contributionsThe perfect way to see all the ghats in Varanasi is - boat Tour. Agents will come to you when you will be nearby ghats and negotiate with you, make sure that before riding. but again, to see 130 ghats and their beauty, you must have this in Varanasi.
Situated beside the great Dashaswamedh ghat and most picturesque after Darbhanga ghat, Especially blue water with Lord Shiva painted, looks amazing. Boat tours, aarti, local market, man mandir ghat - this is like the hub of all ghats.
Apart from Dashaswamedh ghat, grand Aarti also takes place at this ghat every evening. Dr. Rajendra Prasad was the First President of India (1950- 1962) and to honor him, this Ghat is named after him.Written 12 May 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. But as with the the Jantar Mantar at Delhi (Varanasi is one of the 5 Jantar Mantars), there is zero information about the instruments, except their NAMEs.
Apart from that, the building has been converted into a digital museium, which is a good use, the information in the digital museum is good, the displays are quite impressive, esp. the shows.
I was curious as to how much saffronization of history, how much dogmatization of facts will have taken place... well, it's subtle, not loud.Written 30 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MC0777Oulu, Finland6,841 contributionsI was the only visitor in this temple, even though the area is so touristy. They had some history written on the rock of the place. Otherwise I found Sarnath quite difficult area to find right places. I knew that there were lot to see, but there were not enough information about how to find everythin.Written 9 January 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
