An exquisite engineering feat, the Bada Imambara is a must visit structure in Lucknow. Built to give employment during famine, the Imambara's exquisite architecture is only overshadowed by the extremely erroneous stories narrated by the guide's who help stories visit this place. Particularly the experience of the Bhool Bhulaiya of the complex is ruined by the guides. Also the place is littered with packets and bottles.

Gunjing refers to whiling away time at Hazratgunj with or without purpose, and is a popular activity.
This area has some of the best restaurants in Lucknow - Moti Mahal, Shukla, Sharmaji, Royal Cafe, Bajpayee, Dastarkhwan etc. Also has excellent shops for chikan like Ada. Some excellent buildings like Vidhan Sabha are walkable.
The place is in the metro route.

I was taken as part of an all day tour of lucknow. Its an actual boarding school now for boys. We couldn't go in due to a school holiday but viewed the grounds. The architecture is not typically indian, possibly due started by a Frenchman Claude Martin who started the the school who was well acquainted with the nawabs. His mistress mausoleum is on the grounds and is a remarkable structure.

This group of monuments shows us the determination of indian freedom fighters to fight for independence early in 1857 and didn't happen until 1947. They were willing to destroy everthing they were forced to build by the britishers. There are so many remains of buildings that were obliterated, mansions, mosque, etc. There is also a museum on site that gives you more facts of lucknow. This is a very interesting place and is an oasis in the center of the fast pace life of lucknow.

Visit chowk to see the real old Lucknow chaos of people and vehicles. Also, the famous Idris biryani is located here. Unfortunately it was closed for renovations.

Excellent place. We visited at the time of morning arti. One complaint...... The person singing arti was singing at the pitch of his voice that too on a mike resulting in a cacophony, instead of being beautiful to hear. If he sings, instead of shouting, arti would have been more divine. Pujari ji was much much more better to hear.

I was looking fwd to seeing this gate in Lucknow but was little disappointed due to renovations and also the color which looks different on Google and trip advisor. My view was a light terra cotta color and others shows different shades od earth tones. I now believe those were pollution residues and its probably clean now lol. Its still an amazing piece of architecture.

AMINABAD IS THE OLDEST, CHEAPEST, MOST POPULAR AND CROWDED MARKET OF LUCKNOW. Aminabad is the oldest , most crowded and cheapest market of the Lucknow, located at about 3.5 Kms distance from Charbagh Railway station. One can purchase each and every thing at very competitive rates from the other markets.
