- albatriqDubai, United Arab Emirates42 contributionsVaigai Dam is situated about 68 Kms from Madurai City. It is built across the river Vaigai. View from the top of the dam is awesome. - Robert ORotterdam, The Netherlands6,260 contributionsJust over 4 km northeast of Meenakshi temple is Sundaram park. If you are staying in Anna Nagar it is just a short 1.5 km walk. The park is on the Vandiyur lake side and open to the public (no charges). It is not in a very good condition, as there is garbage around and the pathways are poor. I had hoped to find shade and a breeze from the lake, but did not find either. There are many trees, but they are not leafy. Dry and hot on a weekday afternoon in March. However, the atmosphere was quite relaxed. No noise, just some couples and youngsters around.Written 31 March 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Robert ORotterdam, The Netherlands6,260 contributionsThe Vaigai river flowing through Madurai originates in the Western Ghats on the border between Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Westerners perhaps know these mountains because of the hill stations.
If you travel from Munnar to Madurai the route roughly follows the Vaigai river via Theni and Dindugal. In Madurai city locals still use the river to wash clothes! Cattle grazes on its banks.
Good to walk along.Written 4 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
