What travellers are saying
- Prateek GuptaBengaluru, India7 contributionsWe visited the Meenakshi Amman Temple on a Sunday, which is considered an especially auspicious day for worshipping Goddess Meenakshi. The temple was bustling with devotees, all eager to receive blessings on this holy day. However, our experience wasn’t as smooth as we had anticipated, particularly regarding the Speed Darshan ticket we had purchased.
We had opted for the Speed Darshan ticket at Rs. 100 per person, expecting it to expedite our access to the sanctum. Unfortunately, this was not the case. Despite paying for the ticket, the queue for the darshan was incredibly long, extending all the way back to the counter. The wait was so extensive that it would have taken us nearly four hours to reach the deity.
While we were still in the queue, a person approached us and shared that for Rs. 500 per person, we could get direct darshan without any wait. Intrigued, we decided to take this alternative route. The person introduced us to a pandit, who, after receiving the Rs. 500, escorted us inside the temple. Another pandit performed the pooja rituals for us, and we also gave an additional Rs. 1000 to him for his services. He was very kind and took the time to explain the significance of the rituals, answering all our queries with patience. This personalized attention made the experience more fulfilling.
After the darshan, we proceeded to the Sundareswarar Temple, which is part of the temple complex. Here, we were informed that the Abhishek ritual was ongoing, having started at 7:15 AM, and would end at 8:00 AM. The pandit explained that this was a significant ritual, and we could join once it was completed. As the bell rang signaling the end of the ritual, we were allowed to enter.
For this visit, we opted for the Speed Darshan again, but this time the pandit informed us that the procedure would be a bit more involved. We paid Rs. 1500 for the speed darshan, which allowed us quicker access. After the pooja rituals were completed, the pandit encouraged us to make a donation for the aarti, which would be shared among the other pandits involved in the temple's ceremonies. We donated Rs. 500, believing it would support the temple’s religious activities.
Overall, our visit to the Meenakshi Amman Temple was a mixed experience. While the temple itself is magnificent, with its grand architecture and spiritual ambiance, the logistical aspects of accessing the sanctum could have been better managed. The Speed Darshan ticket seemed ineffective, and we ended up spending more for the alternative route. Despite the inconveniences, the temple's divine energy and the rituals made the experience meaningful, and we left with a sense of peace and fulfillment.Written 5 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Visited this place on 3rd March 2024 at 6pm and a BIG disappointment awaited us. The Palace was CLOSED and has been CLOSED for some weeks and will remain CLOSED for some more time for some work going on there. But the disappointment is that the authorities have failed to disclose this in the internet and other medium. Saw plenty of people coming and returning disappointed like us. Hope the authorities wake up and keep their information up-to-date for all to see and plan. Photos taken are all from outside only.Written 6 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- JANWaikato Region, New Zealand206 contributionsVandiyur Mariamman Teppakulam (temple tank) is a temple pond complex with a man-made island in the middle. This is one of the largest temple tanks in South India. On the island stands Vigneshwara Temple, used for religious ceremonies only.
We went daytime and walked around the entire outside where much was happening. There were many stalls at front and left of the tank preparing you openings after 6 pm. Unfortunately we couldn't be there at evening to see it lit up but imagine it would look quite good.Written 9 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Hey Pretty!Bengaluru, India19 contributionsWe went to this temple as part of the Yo Madhurai Walk Tour. Its a uphill walk and we went in April with 2 kids aged 10 and 12! but was totally worth it. There is a legend about the fresh water spring here - Noopurgana. The devi darshan was very nice. Beware of monkeys... dont carry anything other than your basic sling bag or bag pack - the monekys are very fast to snatch anything else....:-). Worth the visit and the walk!Written 14 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- AKK1959Chennai (Madras), India298 contributionsPathinettampadi Karuppanna Swamy Temple is situated in the foot hills of Azagar Malai Reserve Forest range. This is a very powerful place of worship and one can feel the vibrations prevailing there.
Karuppanna Swamy is the Guardian lord of Alagar malai - 18am padi ( 18 Steps) Karuppasamy. There is a huge temple gate which is worshipped in all the normal days. The Door is decorated with huge quantity of Sandalwood paste. Behind the gate is the large 18 granite Steps leading to the temple. These Steps are worshiped. The gate is opened only two days in a year.
As Karuppanna Swamy is the guarding the temple, long Aruvals ( a type of long sickle with a knife-like scythe-handle - tool and a weapon ) are offered to the God.Written 26 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
