- ecoJulieGolden, CO53 contributionsI had been to Chand Baori, a few days before, which is the oldest and largest stepwell. It was wonderful, but of course you weren’t able to enter the stepwell, which is the best way to preserve it.
However, I was delighted to see that this smaller stepwell in Jodhpur has free entry, and you can actually go in!
Some boys were having fun jumping in the water. I wouldn’t do that, personally, because stagnant water seems risky, but I’m sure it felt refreshing to them.
I’d definitely recommend going for the novelty of being in a stepwell. They are unique to this region of India. You won’t see anything like this in other parts of the world.Written 16 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. As informed by the tour guide, it was the entertainment site for the Royal King. The hall has beautiful design and style and decorated with gold and colorful glass, which make the hall bright and glittering. The celling of the hall is inlaid with gold filigree. There are glass windows and mirrors, many beautiful portraits and paintings of the 18th century may also be found. The place is plentifully adorned with gold as a sign of royal glory.Written 19 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Sandy_JSRJamshedpur, India2,131 contributionsAs Meherangarh Fort was the residence of the erstwhile rulers of Jodhpur state, it required highest degree of security. The fort had seven entrances, the Loha Pol or the iron gate was the fourth / main entrance of the fort. Loha Pol is the strongest gate and designed thoughtfully with sharp metal spikes so that enemy elephants could not break and enter inside the fort easily.Written 22 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Jai Pol or the 'Gate of Victory’ was constructed to celebrate the victory of Marwar over the arch rival kingdoms. Marks made by cannon balls during old battle are still visible on the walls near the gate.Written 19 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
