Our driver-cum-guide, Dashem Lyngdoh, made our trip to Meghalaya absolutely unforgettable! He was not only an excellent driver, navigating the roads with ease, but also a knowledgeable and engaging guide who shared fascinating insights about the local culture, history, and hidden gems.

You went above and beyond to ensure our vacation was stress-free and truly unforgettable (specially the double decker trek which would have not been possible with our little one without your support and guidance)

Kudos to @dashemlyngdoh for making it a memory for a lifetime!!

We'll definitely be recommending you to friends and family for future travel plans.

The Dawki River is a river located in the northeastern part of India, specifically in the state of Meghalaya. It is famous for its crystal-clear waters and picturesque surroundings. The river is located near the town of Dawki, which lies close to the Bangladesh border. The Dawki River is known for its unique feature: the water is so clear that the riverbed can be seen in most places. The river flows through a lush green landscape, with limestone hills on either side, making it a popular spot for tourists, especially for boating. At 335 meters, Nohkalikai which literally translates to ‘Jump of Ka Likai’ is the highest plunge waterfall in India and the 4th highest in the world. The tragic tale behind the name tells the story of a Khasi damsel called Likai who lived in the village of Rangjyrteh upstream of the waterfall. Widowed with a young daughter, Likai remarried in the hopes of providing a father figure for her child. Likai took over her dead husband’s job of a porter carrying loads of iron to Shylet and spent most of her day working. What little time she could spare back home was spent showering her young daughter with her attention and love.

Flanked by hills on all sides and lined by striking roadways and bridges, the gentle Umiam Lake is one of the reasons why the Guwahati-Shillong route is considered one of the most scenic in the region. The lake was formed when a dam was built over the Umiam River in the early sixties as part of a hydel power project. Umiam Lake has become a favourite spot for many who come to admire the landscape.

Beautiful place to visit, if it is clear day then you get a view of the canyon, which is beautiful, if is cloudy you enjoy more as cloud lift the veil in between and give a peek into the canyon, the whole place a wide green expanse and one can enjoy the view with a walk. The approach is also fine.

Elephant falls is a trail of beautiful waterfalls whicb is located in Shillong. The route is very constructed so it’s very easy to walk towards the falls. The water is super clean and there is so much greenery around the falls. There is a market just at the beginning of the falls where one can shop bags, souvenirs and woollen clothes. Do visit the falls when you are in Shillong

As one enters the cave it becomes extremely narrow, need to squeeze in. Some where it becomes too low, need to bend or fear hitting your head to the limestone . It may look difficult but is not , one should enjoy the experience. The cave is well lit , and is one way so no crowding, in rains the water gets accumulated so makes things little tough to navigate still it is must visit if you are in Cherapunji.

It’s a good place if you want to know more about northeast India. They have seven floors with each divided into a theme. One floor showcases their costumes, one their houses, one musical instruments, one weapons, one on flora and fauna and so on. All very well done.

They also have a short film on the northeast which I thought was average. They could have showcased more of the natural beauty of the place given the film was 7-8 mins long.

There’s also a cafe and a skywalk from where you can view large parts of Shillong city. There’s a small souvenir shop near the exit where you can pick up cane curious, local candy and books on the region. The staff there is quite helpful.
