- Robert ORotterdam, The Netherlands6,592 contributionsThe Bishop's house rather looks like a villa, not to say palace. The Roman Catholic bishop of Kochi took residence here after the church bought it. Not a humble place, but rather luxurious with beautiful well kept gardens surrounding it.
The exact history of the building puzzled me: "built in 1508" to serve as residence of the Portugese governor claim the tourist brochures, that is 10 years after Vasco da Gama arrived. They first had to build a fort. Perhaps there first was a more modest building to house the governor. I liked the tiled roof and gothic style arches.Written 14 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Nowadays, the bungalow is currently converted in the museum and open for the public. Even if you can't explore the entire building, the museum itself is worth a visit.
Just to ensure to check the opening hours to visit.Written 12 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. He says anyone who comes to Kochi
Can pray to Almighty and get his blessings
Well let me tell you my part and burst this fairy tale...
Look I have some strong thoughts about this
Seeing these interviews of Elias Josephai
I'm a 12 year old who lives in Kochi
And I like history a lot
Especially the Jewish history
When I got to know about this synagogue
I was happy
Cuz theres a synagogue so near to me...
And I like to see synagogue
And I read a lot about Kochi's history
But when I entered in there was a big aquarium full of fishes to sell
Then I saw this man Elias Josephai
Look before meeting this 'Sir' I had a good impression about him
Such a nice guy
Single-handedly restored this piece of history
There he was talking to someone
I had intentions to talk
But as he was talking
I thought lets see the synagogue and come back
But when I ask a staff there
Where is the synagogue?
He is like 'I dont know, ask the owner '
So by this time Mr Elias's conversation was over
So I asked him twice
But he didnt mind me
Then this time i thought along with asking, i can strike a conversation
And i asked him the third time
And he very hazily said
Entry is not allowed, you can go
This guy was really rude at me
So WTH do u mean by ur words?
If u have restored a piece of history
You gotta let ppl interested in history
Or atleast talk
You were talking to other ppl
But judged me
Its not fair...
I hope someday its open...
And thankyou Mr.Elias
For partially ruining my self esteem
By being rude
I had better expectations...😢Written 5 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
