Highly recommend this tour! We were taken through the beautiful Kerala backwaters on first a houseboat and then a canoe. Our tour guide Meera was lovely and told us so much about the local area and wildlife. We stopped off at various islands and houses for demonstrations of things like how coconut fibres are turned into rope and how shellfish is processed in the villages. We were also provided with a lovely traditional Keralan meal and some snacks and tea. Everyone involved was so kind and our driver Firez was very helpful giving us advice about where to visit during our trip. If you’re in Kerala you should definitely book this trip - fantastic value for money! Make sure you bring some cash along for tips and in case you want to buy any snacks or goods on the way.

The countryside around Munnar is beautiful, and a nice cool change from Kochi. A very long drive up and back, however 8+ hours in the car, but we had no other option as our time in Keralawas limited. Our driver, Eby, was very personable and accommodating.
The Tata Srishti Trust Workshop was especially interesting.
The tea museum was rather dilapidated and not worth the time.
The spice "plantation" was basically just a come-on to get you to buy things, basically same as dozens of other similar roadside tourist establishments.
More time seeing and exploring the landscape would be our recommendation.

Beautiful river sites on this tour. Waterfalls, a suspension bridge, and more!

    Pros:
    - A nice day trip to see some of the natural beauty of the area.
    - Nice views at the top and bottom of the Athirappilly falls. enjoy the mist from the falls from the bottom.
    - Lots of monkeys at the Athirappilly falls. But beware, they are greedy and try to steal any food you have, whether an ice cream from your hand or foods from a tote bag.
    - A pleasant stop at a suspension bridge over the river. Beautiful views, places to relax on both sides of the river, and a nice break from the car ride.
    - Vazhachal falls and a third (if water is flowing) are nice as well, even if visible only from an observation area.
    - Very good lunch in a nice resort restaurant.
    - The guide/driver took us via the forest, offering a chance to see wild elephants. (Although we didn't spot any, just some evidence they were there!)
    - The fact the tour was all-inclusive (except for tips) was great!

    Cons:
    - It's a long car ride to and from, over mostly rough roads.
    - To access Athirappilly falls, it's a moderate hike. The hike down to the base (and back up) is more challenging, so just be aware that moderate athletic ability is needed to see the falls!
    - Despite signs warning of fines, lots of people throwing trash on the ground especially at the falls. You'd think the park management would take a lounging staff member at the front gate and assign them to scold litterers.

Summary: A nice trip outside the city. Be sure to stop as often as possible to see as much as possible. It breaks up the trip and makes the car time more rewarding!

Our driver Abhi is an excellent driver, very courteous and accommodating. Wherever we wanted to adjust the itinerary (within reason), he was kind to help. He is a local with roots in Kochi and very competent on the road to and back.

He is also a great photographer - so please ask him for help with photography and framing. We came back with more than tea and spices - we made great memories.

Shameer was an amazing guide for the city of Kochi. He is passionate about his city and Keralan culture, and described Kochi as a place where Hindus, Muslims, and Christians live happily together. He was a joy to hang out with and even made a few extra stops along the way as I had to run some errands. Highly recommend booking with him as a guide to the city.

The backwaters of Kerala are a must see ofcourse. The serenity of nature is the biggest plus. James was good tour guide. The coir rope making and thatched roof demos were a good touch. The meal afterwards was very enjoyable.

Our day trip cruise from Kumarakom to Alleppey was a truly enchanting experience. The houseboat itself was clean, comfortable, and well-appointed, offering both indoor and outdoor seating to enjoy the views. The journey through the backwaters was breathtaking. The lush greenery, tranquil waters, and traditional Kerala village scenes provided a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
The onboard meal was a highlight—fresh, flavorful, and expertly prepared.

If you're looking for a serene and picturesque way to explore Kerala’s backwaters, this cruise is a fantastic choice. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a peaceful and memorable day on the water.

Planning a 6 day private tour of Kerala I needed to find a driver. Trip advisor came up trumps with Ramesh. He was delightful. Always prompt, polite and has excellent English. His driving was exemplary. He also was very knowledgeable about the area and the sights he took us to. Very easy company over the 6 days. Plus an added bonus he has an excellent singing voice and will sing traditional Indian songs, but only on request. I thoroughly recommend him for your trip. Contact Ramesh.790@rediffmail.com

Our experience with Iris Holidays on their Kerala 4-day/3-night package was absolutely perfect and gold value! From start to finish, everything was well-organized, and we couldn’t have asked for a better way to explore this beautiful part of India.

The highlight was definitely the unique tea gardens—unlike anything we’ve seen before. We were lucky enough to spot wild elephants grazing in the national park, which was an incredible bonus and made the trip even more special. The overnight stay on a houseboat in the backwaters was magical, offering a serene and unforgettable experience.

A special mention goes to our driver/guide, Vipin, who was exceptional. He took care of all the day-to-day logistics, ensuring that everything ran smoothly. Vipin was reliable, honest, and knew his way around Kerala like the back of his hand. If you’re planning this trip, buckle up and enjoy the road trip—you’re in for an amazing journey!

Highly recommend Iris Holidays for anyone looking to explore Kerala. Be sure to request Vipin as your private guide!!

What a great experience! Floating down the river was so relaxing. We sat at the front of the boat and felt like VIPs as we watched the scenery go by while our fantastic crew attended to our every need. The meals on board were excellent. Our bedroom was cool at night. They stopped at Champakulam, a small town on the river, where we could shop for the usual tourist items. But the real attraction of that town was the St Mary's Basilica just beyond the tourist shops. Founded in the 400's, it's gorgeous inside, with painted walls and ceiling. Overall we had a wonderful time and felt like we really got to see Kerala
We had one traumatic thing happen at the end of our trip. After we got off the houseboat, we had to take a water taxi to get to the dock where the cars were parked. Our luggage was on top of the taxi along with the garbage from our trip. At some point, the garbage bag flew off the taxi and into the river. We can only hope it was an accident.
