Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. He shared many details and was clearly passionate about the history and cultural significance of each place on the tour.

We drive to the Modhera Sun temple and Rani ki Vav at Patan from Ahmedabad, which was almost an entire day trip. The roads to Modhera and Patan are good except for small stretches of patchy construction work. Both these places are exquisite architectural marvels, depicting the Solanki style of architecture. The monuments are well preserved, and the surrounding areas are well maintained and clean including decent restroom facilities.
Restaurants in the vicinity aren't great and this was definitely disappointing. We had lunch at a roadside dhaba, which surprisingly was quite nice.
Would recommend leaving early from Ahmedabad if you want to cover both these places on the same day.

It was absolutely the best tour experience that we had in India so far! If you have the possibility to ask for a particular guide - ask for Girish! I mean it! Not only is he knowledgeable, tactful and full of little anecdotes that get into you and stay with you long after the tour. He can also literally bring the visited places and monuments to life by going into details about their construction, mythological and cultural background, etc. The Sun Temple and the Stepwell were amazing sites in their own capacity but the guiding experience delivered by Girish made them a truly unforgettable experience! Highly recommended!

Rani ki Vaav at Patan and Sun Temple at Modhera are both close to Ahmedabad and can be a great exploration for a day trip to some amazing history.
Architecture of ancient #india is a visual art, and the buildings speak for themselves. The #sun #temple is one such beautiful #monument located at #modhera village in #gujarat .The temple halls have intricately carved exterior and pillars. The reservoir has steps to reach the bottom and numerous small shrines.

Patan is famous for its #amazing history, #architecture (Rani ni Vav) and #artwork (Patan na Patola).
Rani Ki Vav (Queen's Stepwell') has been listed as one of the UNESCO's World Heritage Sites. It has the finest and one of the uniquest architecture. It is designed as an inverted temple highlighting the sanctity of water, the stepwell is divided into seven levels of stairs with sculptural panels of deities, apsaras from various mythological stories.
#patola is a double #ikat woven #sari usually made from #silk . They are very expensive, once worn only by those belonging to #royal and aristocratic families.

Very interesting and insight into the life of the maharaja whose family still lives there. Good audio is available in all languages to guide your round the part of the Palace that is open to the public. The building is a magnificent testimont to the architecture of the time it was built. Certainly a very good half day out to tour this building and its surroundings.

Bhupen, a professional guide, who takes every wish from your eyes and works hard to make it come true. With his culturally open and humanly empathetic manner, he regularly achieves this. Thank you for this...

This is a 2 km walk that starts from a SwamiNarayan Temple (HIndu) & ends in Jami Masjid (Muslim). There are so many Hindu & Jain temples and Masjids in this small section of humanity. They all appeared to live together in peace and harmony for hundreds of years. Some of these streets as very narrow. The ancient wood work is remarkable for the Indo-Chinese influence. The British have left their mark too. However, the Muslim & Hindu heritage is quite visible. You will see many ancient "chabutras" or bird feeders.
The walking tour does take you through "Pols" populated with people living contemporary life in ancient architecture and city lay out. You will witness the authenticity of their existence by having cows, dogs, goats & monkeys co-existing with humans in an urban setting. There will be cow dung on the street, dirty water flowing in the street, and even smell of urine. This should not distract you from all the things you will be able to see and learn about on the tour.
This is indeed a wonderful value for money & includes the wonderful mouthwatering snacks at Chandravilas Restaurant ( it is about 120 years old).
Please bring a head gear/hat with you to enter certain religious places. prepare to remove your shoes at many places. Your starting point is different from the ending point so plan accordingly. If you read a bit about this trip beforehand, it will certainly help to get the most out of this trip. The guides give to-the-point information so it is easy on the ears.
