Breathtaking landscape, with, early in the morning, views of the distant snowcapped Tian Shan Mountains.
The guide told us that its about 2000 years old, its an amazing site , you can see the houses, temple , streets ruins very clearly, amazingly preserved.

The lake and surrounding mountains are a great natural attraction and there are optional sites to see such a cable car ride that takes one higher up the mountains and that is worth doing but one needs 2-4 hours to...
Try walking a lit bit further to avoid crowds and you will be rewarded with an amazing view with tranquility.

Very interesting from architectural point of view.
Interesting landmark.

Red Hill Urumqi
Quiet, stunning panoramic views of the downtown skyscrapers, charming little pagodas with wraparound porticos, and everyone here seemed just... quieter, somehow.
Great views.

I had the opportunity to play Rawap with an old guy sitting and playing the Uigher stringed instrument at the site.
The sights are amazing and a huge change from the oasis not far away.

The site is enormous and it would be best to visit with a guide.
Coming from a country that is just under 500years old, we don’t have these types of places in Canada so even though this is young compared to other sites in the region it is impressive due to its sheer size, the f...

Grand Bazzar Urumqi
There is also a museum up in the tower which affords a nice view of the market area.
View of the Mosque is beautiful.

Karez System Turpan
It was fascinating for the 7 year old to see how someone would dig a canal from the mountains all the way to the village and the little one just enjoyed the tunnel views :)
The site is also very nice, and the small musée very well done.
4 Ways to experience it
Very nice architecture and we had a great time taking pictures and enjoying the views from the top.
There was no public transport found to this site from Turpan city center.

Khunjerab Pass Tashkurgan County
The Khunjerab Pass is worth visiting with its scenic beauty, awesome mountain views, the yaks grazing and the orange marmot.
The roads offers incredible views.

But back to the site-- make sure to look at the adjacent graveyard, over the fence-- highly unusual for China.
Most of the views are natural, only small part of it is man made, which include a troop of camels and a large tree stump.
And you can also walk up to the hill to get a spectacular view of the town.
There is a Mazar holding the relic of an Islamic saint on the site but it's really only for worshippers and not polite to visit if you don't share the faith.
It's a splendid old building, one of the most interesting sites in Urumqi.
Tashkurgan Fort Tashkurgan County
This is an incredible fort, with a commanding view over the fertile valley.
Tiemen Pass Korla
The unsaved path however was more reminiscent of the original Silk Road than many other sites.
