- Amanda SPerth, Australia159 contributionsWhile visiting Siem Reap, a trip to Pub Street was a must. The area is bustling with activity, offering a vibrant atmosphere, people watching, shopping stalls, and eateries during the day. At night, it transforms into a lively nightlife scene, complete with creatively served cocktails at affordable prices, ranging from $4.00. Meals were also reasonably priced, costing between $5.00 and $20.00. We were conveniently located near Walking Street and often walked there. To explore the local attractions, we hired a tuk-tuk driver, who we bartered with, and paid $15.00 for a day's service. Our driver became a friendly acquaintance, picking us up from our hotel and proving to be extremely helpful. I believe our friendship with him allowed us to see more of the area. We thoroughly enjoyed our two-week stay in Siem Reap and could have easily stayed longer. The people were warm and welcoming, although there appears to be a significant divide between the wealthy and the poor. Siem Reap is a must-visit destination for any traveler.Written 19 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Carmen RMount Eliza4 contributionsThis market is so interesting with great people and amazing products. You can wander without being hassled by the stall holders and most things are priced so no need to haggle - perfect for me.Written 18 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Choong HKuching, Sarawak, Malaysia120 contributionsMany souveniers stalls.. There's one at the corner facing the riverfront that gives good bargains. Things are nearly the same.. Some are very sarcastic when you try to bargain. Just walk away.. there are other friendlier sellers elsewhere. I dont mind paying 1 USD more for an item if the seller is friendlier. It does help with their living as we can see how the lack of China tourists is affecting their business. There are also vegetable/fruits snacks to buy at the centreWritten 12 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jim_Kris48Folkestone, UK114 contributionsThe $3 entrance is well worth coming here, lots of areas have there own Killing fields and this one is in Siem Reap. You are given a map and guide yourself round reading the information boards and seeing the pictures. It explains what happened at certain spots on the tour, it is a very sad experience about man’s capacity for cruelty to another man, woman or child. We need to keep these atrocities alive in the hope of it not happening again.Written 18 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TheRelfsterManchester, UK2,079 contributionsWe went twice as our hotel was nearby, both times we were practically on our own. I loved all the statues and fabulous architecture.Written 31 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - John SDurham, NC1,331 contributionsDuring our trip to Cambodia, exploring the Siem Reap Night Market was a highlight. This bustling market, located in the heart of the city, offered a vibrant mix of culture, unique crafts, and delicious street food. As evening fell, we were drawn into its lively atmosphere, with rows of stalls selling everything from handmade crafts to trendy clothing. We spent hours browsing, discovering beautiful silk scarves and intricately carved wooden statues. Bargaining with the friendly vendors added a fun, cultural element to the experience.
The market's street food was a culinary adventure. We sampled local delicacies like nom banh chok, a traditional Cambodian noodle dish, and indulged in rolled ice cream for dessert. Beyond shopping and eating, we enjoyed watching local artisans at work and performances of traditional Cambodian music and dance, which added to the festive atmosphere.
Visiting the Siem Reap Night Market was an unforgettable experience that enriched our trip to Cambodia. Its lively vibe, unique shopping, and delicious food make it an entertaining destination if you are visiting Siem Reap.Written 16 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There is plenty of meat, fruits, nuts, and other stuff for sale for locals along with stalls selling souvenirs. If you haven't been to an Asian market before, you should visit. This is definitely nothing like a western supermarket.Written 11 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ITommEdithvale, Australia89 contributionsWat Bo is North East from the Old Market, across the river. It is a bit dusty (as are most of the Monastery's in Siem Reap). GPS 13,21' 23.29631 103 51'41.0191 There were two or three main tourist highlights very worth browsing. The first is that this monastery has an area where temple reliefs, Buddha statues and ornaments are made (or practised to be made). You can watch wooden statues being carved or see plaster templates of architraves and columns. A second attraction is the "Path of Buddhas" - a long outside corridor of Buddha statues. A third is the cemetery area. Another area worth looking at was the Temple building - which at the time was being renovated - but care must be taken as the floor tiles can be easily cracked. Too, there are toilets available. Remember, as usual, that entering any buildings means shoes and hats off.Written 22 March 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Raymond TSydney, Australia6 contributionsThis is a must visit destination if you travel to Siem Reap. Suggest you get a tuk tuk from town (not too far away but you don't want to walk in the high heat and humidity) and have them wait for you while you explore as it's not a large place.
The venue has a workshop and a gallery. A lady named Sina spoke perfect English and walked me through the workshop and the process they undergo, including the lacquerware and how they make some of the art pieces, including the one I eventually ordered.
I fell in love with a particular piece with silver leaf lotus flowers but it was mounted on wood (ie high freight costs and custom issues) and didn't have fish. Sina indicated that they could custom make something for me, put it on canvas, and add koi that I wanted (rather than the catfish they usually have). I prepaid including freight cost, which was very reasonable given it was made to order. Sina also sent me a picture of different koi via Whatsapp for me to choose which ones I wanted.
The canvas arrived professional packaged so it wouldn't be damaged in transit. I had it stretched and mounted on a floating frame (attached) at 176x93cm.
I highly recommend this place and to take home (or order) a high quality piece of art work at a reasonable price and support the local community.Written 23 March 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There is a man at the back that hand paints a lot of tshirts with angkor temples and other prints onto nice quality t shirts, he is worth a look. Some really beautiful art too. Several stalls with incredible pieces to look at.Written 26 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Voyager506019060377 contributionsIt’s much more relaxed than the main city markets and in a nicer part of town. The shops help the locals find employment. It sells much better quality goods than the markets and nobody harasses you to buy anything. You can’t haggle over prices here.Written 17 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- LuizDutraNetoRio de Janeiro, RJ8,560 contributionsWhile strolling along the "Royal Crusade of Independence Gardens" in Siem Reap, a white villa at its South end will certainly catch your attention. This is the official "Royal Residence" of Cambodia's Royal Family when visiting Siem Reap. Probably due to its size, it is not considered as a "Royal Palace", but only as a "Royal Residence" and it is not opened for public visits. But you can always take nice pictures in front of the villa and its manicured gardens. "Old Market" is only 15 minutes away. Enjoy!Written 31 October 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- PowerABAAdelaide, Australia2 contributionsHaving lived in several South East Asian countries including some 3 years in "Khmerland", I was fortunate to visit both DIWO Galleries and meet the owner Ms. Sokha Chung. I found the courtesy extended to me by this lady to be exemplary to say the least. Her knowledge of the Khmer history and culture was superb. Most professional and ethical in her representations and dealings.. Of course, some of the items/merchandise - to some - maybe "pricey"... but good unique things are well worth buying. And if I were allowed I would have also "taken" the centrepiece ~ Ms. Sokha Chung ~ if she was available...unfortunately not so!Written 13 June 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - WanderlustaustraliaSydney, Australia209 contributionsThe workshop/gallery is set in a lovely building with luscious greenery surrounding it.
The artwork is truly beautiful, and the prices fantastic. They wrap your pieces up very carefully so they can be protected in your suitcase.
The staff are friendly and obviously very passionate about their work.
Highly recommend visiting here for a truly Cambodian piece of art.Written 6 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
