The Khmer Ceramics & Fine Arts Centre in Siem Reap is a truly wonderful and extraordinary place. The centre aims to rediscover and reintroduce Khmer ancestral pottery techniques and support the development of contemporary Khmer ceramics art. The centre includes places were thousands of wonderful, unique ceramic pieces are produced by hand every week. With talented potters some of whom are deaf and mute creating economic opportunities, and helping taking people out of poverty. We were given a great and informative tour.
There is a fabulous shop. We could have easily bought 100s of amazing pieces, but we settled for some wonderful bowls and mugs, for ourselves (a great reminder of our Cambodian holiday) and some unique gifts for family and friends.
Additionally there is a cafe bar and workshop where people can receive a lesson in pottery and create some of their own work! Unfortunately we only found the centre on our last day so did not take any classes. The centre is slightly out of the main Siem Reap tourist area, but easily reachable with a low cost tuk-tuk ride.
I wholeheartedly recommend you add a visit to Khmer ceramics to any Cambodian holiday.
