There are cafés inside for a cool drink and seating areas are also present for some rest. On one side of the river is the historic Al Seef and Al Fahidi neighborhoods. You can then ride on a traditional abra across the river to the Old Souk. The cost is 1 Dirham. Make sure you get on the right abra. You go into a lift one side, and up the top, you can walk over the glass floor or choose to walk either side of this if this is something you wouldn't want to do! The Abra is the traditional mode of transport in the region and is still used by locals for public transportation. However, for a tourist, it is a memorable experience and provides beautiful views along Dubai Creek. The cost is 1 Dirham, cash only. You can board at the Bur Dubai near the historic Al Fahidi neighborhood and cross to explore the authentic Gold and Spice Souks. There are several different Abra routes but you want to take the Diera Old Souk-Bur Dubai.
