The artificial island in form of a giant palm tree features top end residences, luxury hotels, the giant Atlantis hotel and the brand new ultra luxury Atlantis The Royal. There is a monorail with four stops, a very convenient means to get around, and the day pass is not expensive. I had the opportunity to sail out to The World Islands in 2008 and it was very impressive at that time, but you could see then the sea was eroding the man-made islands at an alarming rate.
On most every flight into and out of Dubai International Airport over the past 10 years I always kept an keen eye on The World Islands project. Just last week I was able to snap a few photo’s from the airplane and boy is this project a total disappointment.
No longer can you make out the continents and the man-made barrier reef has almost disappeared!
