The U.S. Naval Academy should be on everyone's list when visiting the Annapolis area. We took a 10:30 tour and were so glad we did. One may purchase tickets on line; however, our group of 8 was easily accommodated on a Saturday morning. I recommend watching the video before your tour for some background information and to learn about the rigorous program at the academy. Our guide was interesting and a wealth of knowledge. The campus is beautiful and the granite buildings are well kept inside and out. The chapel is stunning, and the lovely grounds are immaculate.

Along cobbled stone walks and down to the dock, one will find history and great architecture around every corner in downtown Annapolis. The State House is lovely with its impressive dome that may be seen throughout the area. The other buildings and homes in the downtown area are well maintained and beautiful.

Impressive State Capitol Building. So much rich history in a beautiful building. Free tour at your pace. You need ID’s to get inside. Highly recommend .

Quiet Waters Park is a large green space just a few miles from downtown Annapolis. There is a Visitor's Center with restrooms, miles of paved paths, and a special Doggy Beach. Yes, there is a beach area exclusively for dogs. We enjoyed watching the dogs playing on the shore and water with each other. There was also art on display in the Visitor's Center when we were there. The paved paths are perfect for wheel chairs or strollers. There are a few different parking lots within the park too. It is a nice place to spend part of a day outdoors, have a picnic, or relax.

The William Paca House & Garden seems to be a hidden gem in Annapolis. We did a self-guided tour through the gardens but did not tour the house. The gardens were interesting, but a little disappointing because all flowers were gone by the time we visited in mid-June. We probably missed them by a month. But the gardens are most definitely a haven from the bustling city.

Be sure to visit the two rooms open to those on garden tours. They provide lots of good information.

Also, the woman working the front desk was extremely friendly and helpful.

The lighthouse tour was fabulous! My husband and I finally took the tour with friends after seeing the lighthouse every day from our home on the Chesapeake Bay. The tour guides were amazing with their knowledge, friendliness and energy and the boat captains had lots of fun stories to share. They divided our group in half when we arrived at the lighthouse so there were only a small group of us at a time with half of us upstairs and the other half downstairs. That way it was easy to hear, see and ask questions. The guides also took their time and we didn't feel rushed at all. While the water was choppy that day, the boat captain made the ride smooth by staying near shore - it was clear he was a veteran boat captain. And everyone who runs this tour is a volunteer! I don't know if we would have gotten as good a tour had people been paid. Everyone's level of excitement and enthusiasm for what they do just radiated in talking about the lighthouse. If you're at all a lighthouse fan, I would highly recommend the Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse tour!

Ego Alley is a great place to sit and relax, or watch the boats go by on a nice day. It is a busy area. One may also catch a boat tour of the river or harbor area.

The Kunta Kinte - Alex Haley Memorial is very nice. The statues are very life-like in size and well done. It is located in a central part of downtown Annapolis near the dock.

This charming house helps visitors understand the relative poverty of the wealthy classes in colonial America, presenting a rather charmingly underwhelming “luxury”. Beautifully restored with period furnishings, the almost cramped setting offers two floors of interesting stories, and the shameful relics of slavery. The tour is an hour long and conducted by highly knowledgeable and personable docents with connections to the estate.

Beautiful. Sad to see a homeless man sitting on a bench in the yard area. It is a very
    old church.

No better way to spend a nice day in Annapolis. The historic tour of the Chesapeake Bay is a few hours and led by extremely friendly and knowledgeable people. You get a sense of Annapolis’ past and present, and get some time on the water. Highly recommend! The museum itself is small and gives a nice history of the region’s oyster and fishing industry.

This is mostly a park for beach and boat people. We went during the week. It was not crowded and they have a very small nature center. Interesting but not much else to do.
