The old fish market itself is an impressive old building with the steel girders in the roof still visible and some lovely old touches. That combined with some very impressive restaurants and smaller eateries with a wonderful array of meats and other dishes is really impressive. But it is obviously geared soley for tourists, particularly cruise ships, so don’t be surprised by higher than normal prices. A nice experience but staying for a night or two in the old city will provide more realistic food choices.

Nice mall. Good stores, nice restaurants. Prices are ok for South America. You might need a Uber or taxi to get there. I’ve of the few attractions in Montevideo.

We enjoyed wandering around for a couple hours. We arrived around 9am and by the time we left at 11am it was so crowded.
It’s like a farmers market, art market, garage sale and flea market combined with items for sale ranging from new and used books, produce (which was high quality), used clothes, artwork, handmade jewelry and also a lot of cheap products from china (socks, phone accessories, purses and backpacks, etc.). There were also food vendors and we enjoyed what we had.

We were in Pocitos beach and came here to do some shopping and to have lunch. We spent a couple of hours and had good time. There are many European stories, but some local ones as well.

I was saying in a hotel just up the road from this gallery, and walked past every day. It never struck me to go in, until one day, it started torrentially raining, so i thought...well why not, so in i went. I paid my $200 entrance fee. Dont worry..i hadnt lost my mind, the Uruguayan Peso uses the same sign, but is worth only 2.5 % of the US$ so the entance was 5US or £4 for those of us in the UK, and worth every penny.

You might never have heard of Gurvich, i know i hadnt, but he was a Lithuanian Uruguayan artist, pupil of Torres Garcia, who, despite being quite obviously influenced by European artists like Picasso, Miro, Chagall and even Bruegel, developed something quite uniquely South American, and very, very appealing. HIs work covers almost every medium from pencil drawing, abstract painting, then done as textile or ceramics. There are clay figurines, tapestries, embroideries, woven artworks and pottery, as well as painting, and i just loved this gallery.

It has 5 floors, and i suggest you start at the top, taking the lift, and work your way down by the stairs so you dont miss anything, but really you will probably only need an hour maximum to see everything. on your way back out, dont forget to visit the gift shop, by the main entrance which has a good array of Gurvich, and other artists bits and pieces.

just a great way to pass a rainy spell...

The place to be if you want to travel. An impressive frontage with a huge statue of someone on a horse outside. Regular ferry to Buenos Aires

We were coming off a South American cruise in Monteviedo and were close to the mercado so we went off to have a look. This was the first shop I saw and was amazed at all the unique and interesting pieces of art in many types of art-wood, sculpture, ceramic, pics-all were one of a kind pieces. I went and looked at all the other stores in the area and came back to what I felt had pieces that talked to me and would never find anywhere else-I purchased two pieces made from recycled wood into dogs with some metal pieces on top-so cute by W. Moreira cruz and an adorable pin that was a cow in a skirt that you would have to see to believe the detail. The owner was very informative as was his wife and packed with such care with foam and paper that they had no problem getting home in the suitcase. Thank you so much!!

Several websites said it was open until 4:00pm, but everything was closing by 2:00pm when we went on a Tuesday. Most of the clothing seemed to be the same things you would find in stores -- not handmade goods. Lots of vegetable stands on the other side of the park.

The place worth a stop because it has a nice and beautiful collection of photos. There is also a nice shop inside.

The market is ok and for sure it makes this area a very crowded one, since at Sunday there is this thing.

Quiet place where you enjoy lunch, tea or dinner. We went for lunch and one of the dishes was not good. I ordered the salad of the day which consisted of tomatoes, onions, avocado, basil, bread crumbs and shrimp. Unfortunately it was mainly bread (as shown in photo), four shrimps, four basil leaves, a few pieces of avocado and some tomatoes. The restbof the dishes where fine

Good shopping centre with a supermarket within. It isn't too big but it looks good and it has a pretty good variety of shops.
If you are around it is worth to stop by but don't get out of your way if you don't have much time to spend in Montevideo. Great place to buy the jerseys of the national football team and the city clubs.

I visited the Espacio Arte Manfredi on December 23 after scheduling a gallery appointment with the director of the gallery, Gustavo Moreira Manfredi. Mr. Manfredi greeted me at the appointed time and dedicated his time to informing me of the various holdings within his gallery. Mr. Manfredi is a first-rate director and has strong customer service skills.

For some one new to acquiring art, Mr. Manfredi put me at ease and addressed my questions thoroughly. I recommend paying a visit to this art gallery that appears to be off the beaten path (i.e., not located in ciudad vieja) but is truly worth a visit or two.

Now ran by the second generation, this factory store makes leather clothing in an artesanal fashion. Their prices are really very competitive and they deliver high quality material and craftsmanship.
Located on the first floor, they are kinda difficult to find, but you find if worthwhile.
All leather clothing is made in their own factory, and they do adjustments, if needed, overnight.
Lovely people to talk too, a real family business. If you are looking for a leather jacket or something like that, this place is worth a visit. We know them for a few years now and always drop by.
