- Curiosity644009241466 contributionsA fantastic tour, starts with ancient art and goes to the present. A wide transition and very moving. Worthwhile I am very detailed. Was on the tour for two hours and could have been longer.Written 20 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. About different art
It s so pleasant to walk through the garden too and discover the modern rooms dedicated to silver smith and Inca ceramic and historyWritten 20 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. For SOL 14 or USD 5 (two tickets - cash only) we were able to access 4 of the 7 sections that comprise this Franciscan compound. The other 3 are inhabited by, well, Franciscan priests.
The museum itself is amazing with art from the XVIII and XIX century. We were lucky enough to be guided by a student of Art History, which along with telling us how the priests lived and their ways, also gave us some much enriching information about the painting and their details. There is so much to it.
The tour lasted for 1.5 hours. Hence, if you go here it is important you like art and history, as otherwise it may be tiring (a fast track-20 minute option is the San Francisco church downtown).
It is advisable to get in and out of there using a taxi (Uber for instance charges about USD 5 to get there from downtown).Written 18 April 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - sandy cCopenhagen, Denmark673 contributionsIn the centrally located Park Juana Alarco de Dammert sits this nifty building and collection. The concept is more quality over quanitity. The vast majority of the sculpture, painting, ceramics, are well executed and captivating. You may see some famous names, or artists new-to-you. Most art here is late 19th to early 20th century, in many different styles. After walking through each wing, I walked through again and was just as charmed. If you have the slightest interest in art, I'd call this gem a 'must see'.Written 24 March 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Mario MSantiago Metropolitan Region, Chile215 contributionsA very well restored historic landmark in downtown Lima, which also shows one of the many things Chile and Peru have in common, beyond their past differences. Home of Bernardo O´Higgins, fouding father of Chile and great contributor to Peru´s independent movement, shows a piece of history and how life was in the mid 1800.
Worth stopping by and have a look, don´t forget to read what is on display, very interesting and you can find everything in Spanish and EnglishWritten 21 January 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Her sculptures are mostly of women, birds and bulls. Very evocative of Quechua women, often depicting stylized representations of women carrying infants on their backs.
Beautiful setting, many works and a lovely tour from Teresa, a painter herself who is curator and was a friend of Marina.Written 27 May 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It's not a huge place, but if you are a lover of contemporary art I'd recommend checking it out. Maybe the artists aren't world famous, but should be. Be sure to check out the upper floor. Again, it's not a huge mega-collection, so if contemporary art isn't your thing, don't go out of your way to visit. But if you do, it's just a block from the PUCP Cultural Center.Written 1 July 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - sandy cCopenhagen, Denmark673 contributionsIt's not a huge institution, but if you like art, especially contemporary art, but if you're in Recoleta I say check out Galeria Enlace. I don't know why the artists here aren't more well known- it's certainly not for lack of talent. The works themselves were often astonishing- colourful, creative, innovative. It's just a block from the PUCP cultural centre, which is also nice to pop into.Written 1 July 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
