What travellers are saying
- Stephen VCuenca, Ecuador756 contributionsThere are times that a foreign place can be intimidating, especially when you cannot speak the language.
Milton Ortiz to the rescue!
This native of Cuenca, Ecuador can speak both Spanish and English. His knowledge of Cuenca, Azuay, and the rest of Ecuador is impeccable. My wife and I have used Milton Ortiz - VIP Travel more than once in our time in Cuenca. We live in this beautiful city, and there are times we need that extra help (especially transportation) to take in the beauty, culture, and history of the area.
Milton has taken us to Kushiwaira, a Cañari culture site that is south of Cuenca. He has driven us to Casa Museo de la Macana, a wonderful place to learn about traditional weaving. Of course, you can purchase their great textiles. Because of Milton, we have visited Ecuagenera Orchid Farm in Gualaceo. That is a "must" to visit. Want to see the world's largest spoon? Milton has taken us to Paute, and to Cuchara Más Grande del Mundo.
If you desire to check out the rest of Ecuador, Milton can do that, too! This excellent tour guide just drove us 9.5 hours up to Cotacachi and Imbabura province. Because of Milton, we stopped at the oldest church in Ecuador in Colta. We are glad he suggested it as we did not know that it was on our way north. Milton knew about a small and cute train station as well as a cultural center in the province of Tungurahua that is at the Chimborazo provincial line.
Need a good and very affordable place to eat? Milton knows them all! On our journey back from Cotacachi, we stopped for breakfast at a great Ecuadorian restaurant on the outskirts of Tanicuchi, and on the E35. Milton stopped in the heart of the Andes mountains for some food that is just outside of Alausi. As a matter of fact, that restaurant knows Milton very well due to his driving tours of Ecuador.
I think you get the idea.
You will be very happy with Milton's services. His knowledge of the country and its culture and history will make you a well informed visitor. And you will be in safe hands with Milton as he is an excellent and cautious driver. Give Milton a try by going to his company's Facebook page. He is quick to reply, and Milton is very punctual... something that can be void in Ecuador.Written 19 March 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tours, transportation, transfers, & some meals were coordinated & factored into the trip cost. Communication as a whole, from planning an itinerary to connecting with each tour guide throughout the trip was EXCELLENT!! I highly recommend planning your trip with Felipe from Amazing South American Tours.Written 10 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Julie DLondon, UK8 contributionsWe went to Altisimo with the idea of having a snack but we ended up having an incredible experience. Their chocolate tasting is unique and eye opening on the world of cacao.
The way they choose their beans and the passion they have in their work is incredible.
You will never taste a chocolate bar the same way after this. The best, finest and rarest chocolates.
If you pass by Cuenca it is a must place.Written 10 August 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - LarryEugene, OR6 contributionsAndres is a great tour guide and an expert bird guide, a terrific combination for birders! We stayed in his affordable and comfortable hostel, La Casa Cuenca. Andres took us on tours to Parque Nacional El Cajas, Ingapirca, Molleturo and three craft villages east of Cuenca. He provided transportation, shared lots of information about Ecuador's history, geography and culture, and helped us spot many, many species of birds. Andres provided us with fascinating and fun experiences, and we strongly recommend him for guiding services, especially for bird enthusiasts.Written 20 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Richmond MCharlotte, NC120 contributionsWOW!!!! Felipe Neira was our guide/driver/translator/historian/nature expert for 5 days while we were in Ecuador. Felipe picked us up in Banos and drove us to National Parks and cool towns as we travelled south to Cuenca.
While in Cuenca, he also spent a lot of time guiding us through neighborhoods. Felipe is just fantastic. His English is perfect. His knowledge of wildlife, birds, ad plants is just amazing. It was a great education hiking with him in the National Parks.
The best thing is that Felipe genuinely cares about your travel wants and needs. He bent over backwards to make sure we saw all the items on our itinerary and also suggested a few others that we did not know about.
Felipe shows up on time and has great communication skills. We never felt like we did not know what our next plan was going to be.
I HIGHLY recommend Felipe when you travel to Ecuador and Cuenca. His expertise in the area made our trip so much more enjoyable and enlightening.
