The Mercado Central de Santiago was opened in 1872 and was once considered one of the best markets in the world. Standards have sadly slipped today, but it is still a vibrant place. The market today houses mostly seafood restaurants in the centre and different stalls selling seafood, meat, produce, bakery products, wines and assorted household items amongst various and sundry. There is a lingering smell here but for a short visit, easily ignored because of all the sights in front of you.

Local market - not necessarily a must see for every gringo. For those that prefer Bellavista, it’s a short walk or micro small Uber ride

This is a huge flee market that extends about 3 blocks in big warehouses. A mixture of odors and noises. Here you can buy clothes, shoes, furniture and others at fantastic prices. Many restaurants too offering Chilean and Peruvian food at low prices. You can arrive here through line 6 of Santiago metro and get off at Franklin Station. Line 6 is the newest line of the metro.

I bought some llama wool here for a gift. A good Chilean friend took me here and said this was very good wool at a good price. I had no idea, but the gift recipient really liked it.

Mastica is an open air flee market with many food stands and artisanal ones too. You may find food from around the world and a few food trucks. I recommend a stand called Bernadette with wonderful artisanal cheeses.
We were lucky because the market took place this weekend. Next one is in the beginning of December.

This flower market has a wide variety of arrangements to go on gravestones as well as some beautiful cut flowers for arrangements. It was a treat to walk through and it smells lovely!
