Visiting Baduy Luar is a unique experience to see the simple life of the Baduy people close to nature. I have visited Baduy Luar few times and also stayed there for one night. To visit Baduy Luar, you can join a tour package as well. It takes few hours from Jakarta to go there.
Here are some things you need to pay attention to when visiting Baduy Luar, including respecting the customs of the Baduy community, not carrying weapons, musical instruments, alcohol or drugs, not littering, etc. In Baduy Luar, there is no electricity or internet, bathing in the river and cooking in a traditional kitchen. Usually we will stay at a resident's house, one of them is Kampung Gajeboh. They also usually walk barefoot and especially for people of Baduy Dalam, they are not allowed to ride in vehicles at all and can only walk barefoot to go everywhere.
As for the reference, Baduy people (sometimes spelled as Badui or Kanekes) are an indigenous Sundanese ethnic group native to the southeastern part of Banten, specifically Lebak Regency, Banten, Indonesia. As it has been the case for hundreds of years, the main livelihood of the Kanekes people is rice farming. Apart from that, they also earn extra income from selling the fruits they gather from the jungle, such as durian and tamarind-plum, as well as wild honey. This will be a great exprerience back to the nature.
