- Rachelle CTamuning, Mariana Islands144 contributionsI wanted to see some fireworks in Hong Kong, and I am a little afraid of traveling to Hong Kong during Lunar New Year, so this was the next best thing. We took the hotel shuttle down to Victoria's Harbour and waited in an area specially designated for viewing the fireworks. The weather was spectacular. For some reason, our area could not hear the speakers broadcasting the music that went along with the fireworks, even though I swear we were in an area where music was supposed to be available. The crowd was unbelievably well-behaved and orderly. The fireworks lasted 12 minutes and were gorgeous. We walked back to our hotel, and felt very safe the whole time. The intense crowd that we were expecting never materialized. We got to our viewing spot two hours early, and could have walked up 15 minutes beforehand. I was hoping the crowd would sit down, but everyone suddenly stood up right before. - Bill CVancouver, Canada4,598 contributionsIt was definitely worth a visit to this fair. There were many other things beside flowers for sale. There were many food stalls and other stalls selling toys, New Year-related items, and souvenirs.
Expect to do a lot of walking. The fair covers a large section of Victoria Park on Hong Kong Island. Nearest MTR station is Tin Hau. There is no admission charge to the fair. The ferry service (pier 5 from Central) took an hour (normal service). Ferry fare per person was HKD 20.20 which was doubled the usual price due to the festive occasion.
I wanted to catch the "deity parade" which was taking place between 2pm to 4pm. I arrived on the island at 11am and the place was already very crowded. Took a while to reach the Pak Tai temple and saw the three 60 ft tall bun towers.
Bought the sesame filling "ping on" buns which was sold at HKD 9 each. There were chairs placed outside the shops or residents home for people to sit and watch the "deity" parade. The chairs were going for rental rates between HKD50 to 100. If one doesn't wish to pay for seats, then do arrive early to reserve a good standing spot.
The "deity" parade was fun to watch as the children were nicely dressed. However, do be prepared for the heat, crowd and loud drum sounds. Also, the climbing competition for the bun towers takes place around mid nite. The results will be covered on TV news the next day if one doesn't wish to stay so late into the night to watch. Here visitors will find 36 ani-com characters spaced out around the promenade area between the HKCEC building and Victoria Harbour. These are fun, interesting to view and to photograph. They are also a fair child-friendly attraction for those looking for things to do with little ones.
In short, this is basically HK Island's answer to the fun Comic Ave. of Stars found at the east entrance of Kowloon Park on the peninsula. The character installations are still relatively new and in good shape, not sun bleached at all. There is artist and character information provided next to each installation. Most of the attractions no need to queue long except the night time Halloween attraction.
However we did not participate the Halloween Fest as we are with 2 small young kids with us, never play those thrill rides also. But my kids love the Halloween Trick or Treat because they got lots of candy, haha...
If compare Disneyland to Ocean Park, I would recommend Disneyland, more fun for us.

One of the things I like to do is hunt down interesting and unique signs and oversized displays celebrating the new year's zodiac character. 2019 is the year of the pig. Given the connotation of "pig" in the U.S., some of the signage made for delightful double entrendes! this year 2016 HK Disneyland had been taken over from villains like Tokyo Disneyland!
The atmosphere and their decoration is especially for holly halloween from middle of Sep.
They have "villains night out" you would meet the infamous Disney villains are celebrating Halloween season.
"Villains garden" you can take photo with them although you better take your time to que up, but it's worth to do that as it's especially for this season.
"The nightmare experiment" also you must try, it's the only one attraction this year you can enjoy for halloween. (Last year was more we remember)
Either you are couple or family, or even friends... they will bring you into the nightmare by Disney dark side characters.
(They are only available in Cantonese)
Well, of course as you expect special costumed Mickey and friends are also waiting for you to have a magical day with you, You can enjoy Halloween theme parade too!
Goodies and meals is also especially prepared for Halloween, makes you addicted to them more.
Approximately you can spend half day maximum as the size of park is not so huge,
Make sure to wear comfortable shoes~

The most common sight of this dance is noticed during the Chinese New Year time, around start of February month. In addition to these two dances, Hong Kong celebrates another form of Dragon dance called "Fire Dragon Dance" during Mid-Autumn festival, that falls mostly in the month of September.
The 'Fire Dragon Dance' dates back to 19th century, started with a fiery dragon dance to ward off some of the evils which affected Tai Hang village. With positive outcome of this fire Dragon dance, the belief among people grew so strong that, this practice continued year after year during Mid-Autumn festival and the Dragon has danced it's way to 21st century with such an ease that, it is now an integral part of the culture, for citizens of Hong Kong.
Century old Tai Hang village has given way to the modern day Hong Kong with Skyscrapers, but the culture of Fire Dragon Dance has continued generation after generation and depicts 'Human Believe & Spirit' which has remained as one of the founding pillars of Hong Kong island, that has seen wide spread British colonization for over a century.
It's a three days celebration during mid-Autumn festival, takes place at Wun Sha street in Tai Hang, near Causeway Bay. This year, the festival was celebrated from 23rd to 25th September, at this historic place. Though one of the days of celebration got affected by rain, the spirit among people was never dampened and the entire celebration took place over the two hours period, on each of the three days. The long dragon made of straw, is covered with thousands of incense sticks which get lit just before the Dragon dance commences. It requires a good amount of practice and top fitness level for the participants who carry out fire Dragon dance.
This age old tradition has become a major tourist attraction too, and it's quite common to find very crowded streets in Hong Kong during this period. People come in thousands to watch this unique Dragon dance and all roads leading to Tin Hau & Causeway Bay MTR stations get jam-packed. Best viewing point is from 'Wun Sha street' which is a short walk from these two MTR stations.

- C1i77Hong Kong, China239 contributionsIt was a weekend cultural event integrating festival music concerts, weekend market for craftworks, local beers and workshops for literature, sports, pet training and etc.
I would say Music was the key theme of the festival. Organised by a prestigious musician Mr Kung Chi Shing, most events at Freespace were centred on the music performances at the two main venues. The main concert place was technically a turf where people sat around with picnic cloths or even small tents - some brought wine and food, and for safety reasons, glass was not allowed.
Different bands and musicians were introduced to the stage for a 30-something-minute show, and there would be a break separating each; I liked these breaks as they allowed friends and family to have some chats, to talk about the music performed, or to visit the stalls or to use loo.
The event was free entrance and you could rent a cup and got some discount for the drink you purchased at specific stalls - and showed your support on protecting our environment.
Within the park, rental bike service was another environment friendly option inherited from the park facilities; however, if you really found walking to the park was beyond manageable, there ran a shuttle bus connecting the "nearby" M+ and the railway. The schedule of this shuttle bus was of course sparse, you might ask the staff for a timetable.

We did the full tea tasting with snack pairing and even a tea cocktail with alcohol. We had a professional man, Jonathan, who guided us through the process. A one of a kind experience that is a great gift for a girlfriend, mother or an anniversary. If you are travelling this is worth it to fit into your schedule. You will never have a chance to experience tea like this.
