Beat the crowds with an early AM start.

Caught a taxi direct from Beijing about 1h (260 CNY) and arrived at 06.30am - open time in peak season.

There is a free “blue” shuttle coach bus to take you up to the main entry point - as about 1.5 kms away from parking lot.

We were close to first visitor entry to the wall by 7pm - two options Badaling North (most popular and used by tour bus groups) and Badaling South.

We went south initially and climbed to tower 4 for great views and very limited tourists. There was a limestone stair option at the back of the wall to take you back to the entry point which we used. Very slippery coming back down the wall. Learnt a lot about wall construction on way back down and nice views.

Decided to also climb north section to tower 3 at 8.30am but way way too touristy by this stage.

There are two cable car options both to towers 7 north and south. You can buy a ticket on the wall, if you didn’t pre book. Alot of tourists catching cable cars (large line ups) to the towers by round trips — good option if not able to do steep walking on the wall.

There’s a few eateries and tourist shops at the entry area.

Caught the HSR from nearby Badaling terminal back to Beijing in 25 mins

We counted over 60 tourist coaches on our departure at 9.30am.

All in all great experience but get in early.

The place was magical! The weather was perfect for our climb. Our tour took us by bus to the car park, we walked to the stairs for the start of the climb.
It is steep, and there are not a lot of landings!
There is irregular distribution of bricks which may be either one layer or two to make the stairs.

This section of the Great Wall is probably the EASIEST I have been so far.
I did Mutianyu just last October, ie about 8 months ago.
There were lots of towers to climb.
Here, I met only 1 and reached the top of the Great Wall for this section.
But this is beautiful as it has the lake with it.

You don't need any tour guide for this.
The tour guides can't help you scale the Great Wall.

I did quite a bit of research and settled on visiting this section of the Great Wall and I'm so glad I did! It's a beautiful stretch that looks barely touched, with a raw sense of beauty with it. The walls are just ankle deep, and the hike up is really steep and uneven. It's not recommended for those with knee problems or mobility issues. It's high up with a view of mountains and small town in the backdrop. The stretch between 6th to 8th guard post are recommended for trail. Truly a beauty to behold.

Great to see a small piece of significant history.
Disabled access may not be the easiest attraction.
    Stunning scenery.

As you would expect the Great Wall is very Impressive where ever you see it, this location, best way up is the chairlift, it is not wheelchair friendly at the top and the climb is very steep, you will need a moderate level of fitness, weekends are very crowded you would need to be there early, best time is during the week

Have been to Nanshan ski resort the first time on December 27, the second time on December 31st. The first time it was not possible to get to the top of the "mountain" (hill) because the black slope had not been prepared yet, so skiing the whole day on the beginners slope was a little bit boring. Instead, the second time, one of the 2 black slopes starting from the top of the mountain was open and it was a great experience. Just regret not to be there in middle of January when the other black slope "extreme snow channel" is planned to open, as judging from above it should be very steep and challenging. One more reason to go there again in the future. In total the ski resort has 3 chairlifts, all of them are 4 seats fixed-grip type with no cover. The only defect is that the foot stand is made for chinese skiers, which means that if you are taller than 1,8 meter then it's very difficult to put your skis on it, leaving them leaning down all the time. I also enjoyed the moguls areas, they have easy, medium, difficult one (this last one is just the standard black slope starting from the top of the mountain). Rental procedure is OK, you have to pay 400 rmb as a deposit, the once you rent something the related cost will be deduct from this deposit so you don't need to handle cash all the time. Food is OK and organization is OK. Parking fee is 5 rmb but if you are lucky sometimes is free (don't know why). Have a nice day!

This was a great show, so talented. I had no idea the body could bend like they did.
The show was well done, plenty of displays and finished with motorbikes.
    Very talented people

As part of our tour, we went to Beijing's OCT Theatre and Happy Valley to watch the 'Golden Mask Dynasty', a captivating story that has been refined over 10 years. This renowned Chinese show combines impressive acrobatics, dance, music, and modern stage effects for an unforgettable experience. It whisks audiences away to ancient China's most glorious dynasty, complete with vibrant costumes, live white peacocks, and a breathtaking stage featuring a waterfall.

I used Travel China Guide to book Bullet Train tickets for my family on our recent trip to China. The tickets only become available 2 weeks before the travel date, so it was a little nerve racking. But Christina managed to secure the tickets we needed for all 3 train legs, including one sleeper train leg, making our holiday a great success. I would definitely recommend and will be using TCG to purchase rail tickets in China in future.

Yugoslavia November 2024, our guide George Morris took the bite out of the cold weather. In 20+ tours that I have done in the last 10 years I would say that George's temperament keep the tour very relaxed, more so than any of the other great tour leaders that I have had. His life experiences are really amazing, for such a young man he really has the world at his feet. Pick a YPT tour that George is leading. You will not regret your choice if he is leading the tour.
