Even though it was snowy, I still had a great experience at the Great Wall of China. I climbed all the way to the top on the left side, but the ice made it a bit slippery, so I advise you to not go in winter. Anyways, a very unforgettable experience I had!

In the heat of July we visited the Summer Palace, a family of six including four children 15,12,6 and 1 year.

We did organise our ticket in advance, but this isn’t such a necessity as other Beijing attractions and last minute tickets can be bought.

It was very busy, like everything in Beijing in the school holidays but it didn’t spoil our trip. Everyone is so friendly and everything is so orderly.

We also waited in line for one of the small self drive private boats - a reasonable price in our opinion. We were expecting a lengthy queue for this, given the crowds but we were on our own little boat in just 22 minutes of joining the queue!

We definitely didn’t allow enough time for our visit to the Summer Palace and there is so much more to explore there for us - but just another great reason to be back one day.

A very secure place to visit, must have a passport for overseas tourists.
Plenty of space and heaps of photo opportunities.
Make sure not to discuss anything political with anyone while there, just enjoy it. There is a large museum, monuments and other buildings to visit if you have time.

Wow! What a park this is. The history is engaging and the nature is the beautiful. The flowers and small plants stand out especially. The grand finale at Jingshan park is the Birds Eye view of Beijing. On one side you can see the forbidden city and on the other you can see Beijing itself. It’s definitely worth the hike!

Beihai Park is a wonderful area to go for a stroll to get away from the crowds of the surrounding area. You can see some sights, like the 9-sided dragon and white pagoda, take a little boat out on the lake (which you are allowed to drive yourself), or just park up on a bench to people watch. There is something for everyone here

The widest pedestrian street in china, and the main place to sort all your retail shopping demands. Theres a wide number of international malls with dining options but I thought there was a lack of street vendor outlets compared to other Tier one city pedestrian streets. Still highly recommended

This section of the Great Wall is probably the EASIEST I have been so far.
I did Mutianyu just last October, ie about 8 months ago.
There were lots of towers to climb.
Here, I met only 1 and reached the top of the Great Wall for this section.
But this is beautiful as it has the lake with it.

You don't need any tour guide for this.
The tour guides can't help you scale the Great Wall.

The mall is stunning in the evening because of the LED ceiling outside. It's great for taking pictures or even for just going for a stroll.

The mall itself has the usual shops and food options, as with many other malls in Beijing. It is on the bigger end of the spectrum of malls in the city, though, so you won't find yourself bored in this place. Most brands here are foreign/international (e.g. Muji, Zara, H&M, Victoria's Secret, Starbucks, etc. There are many local options for food together with a few international chains.

I went there last year. If you are interested in history then it's a perfect place to visit. There are lots of things to see. They also provide audio guide. Metro station is just close to this place. I liked Old summer palace.

This is a vibrant shopping district that is much better than Wangfujing. Shops are also common big brands, but the area is much more walkable, and shops are much more aesthetic in design. Shops also close pretty early for a weekend when we're there, but there are bars and drinking spots nearby that kept the area lively and interesting.

Beautiful, take your time and admire the amazing paintings along the corridor as well. If you know anything about the Dowager Empress Cixi you can imagine being in her shoes and walking along the corridor.

Finding a decent bar outside the hotel was not that easy. The concierge recommend Sanlitun Bar Street and as a visitor to the city I loved it. The people outside are pretty aggressive as they try and entice you into their karaoke, strip or whatever kind of bar it is. We found a small craft beer bar where we could taste various Chinese kraft beers. My colleague and enjoyed it. A welcome break from the Beijing we had been experiencing. But Beijing is a fascinating city.

Great views from the top. The bottom has some high quality art exhibits and historical photos and exposition. Nice leafy courtyard in between to relax in the shade.

One street ( road ) with food stalls on the left & right. Used to be the place where workers getting off late at night can find a place to eat. It’s more modern now and it’s mostly serving Spicy food on the menu. Occasionally there’s gizzards etc in between. Mostly dominated by a few chains of restaurants; it’s a good place to try the crawfish 🦞or crawdads 🤔. Tried at one of the famous outlet Hu Ta. Not the main outlet as I am not willing to wait for 2 hours. Their other outlets along the street has as a much shorter waiting time. Price is decent , environment is good ( tat noisy but good ) and the service is great too.

There’s also local pastry stall and is recommended to give it a go.

Recommend to try. Go a bit earlier if you intend to dine there. Be aware it’s spicy food that dominates the place. Don’t need much time there as 2 to 3 hours will be more than sufficient if not dining. Enjoy.
