- ESVincentHong Kong, China1,131 contributionsThe museum is stunning. The artefacts from Tutankhamen to the beautiful sphinxes and from the amazing statues in rose granite to the delicate tomb carving are stunning. There is so many stunning things and its leaves a huge impression on you..
But its massively crowded with groups some of whom behave poorly touching objects and moving people out of the way..the museum has seen better days but the new GEM aims to replace it.
Still worth the visit..Written 9 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ESVincentHong Kong, China1,131 contributionsThe market is amazing but so is the architecture. There is just so much to the buildings that you end up walking with heads in the air. Yes you will be hassled by some sellers but there is so much to see from antique phones, to beautiful lights but if you step out of the main drag and go through the spice market be prepared to be amazed. Workers covered in turmeric as they grind spices, sacks of peppers and mounds of delightful coloured spices......brilliantWritten 11 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Alex FThe Villages, FL2,146 contributionsI can’t give them a 5 because some areas inside the compound are in need of maintenance and cleaning. With the thousands of of Egyptian pounds they collect every day, and their administration can’t take some to make basic maintenance repairs! Still the Mosque is mesmerizing.Written 5 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- aspoe093Pierre, SD731 contributionsI really enjoyed Coptic Cairo. It's free to get in unless you are going to visit the museum. We didn't visit the museum but visited all the churches there. Make sure that you do some research so you know what the church is about and why it's important. This was a great stop in CairoWritten 20 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- ESVincentHong Kong, China1,131 contributionsThe Citadel complex sits atop the hills of Cairo with views that provide a panorama of the city and yes you can see the pyramids. Consisting of the old Fort, the stunning Mosque and some other buildings this is an interesting complex. The Mosque along is worth the visit with its echoes of Hagia Sophia, the internal geometry of the building is inspiring. There are plenty of tour groups but the size of the citadel allows them to be easily managed.

- Sokhu S5 contributionsWhat a gem! This tranquil spot in the middle of was the treat I needed from the bustle of Cairo. I went on my last day in Cairo and marveled at the space, layout, ambiance and just seeing people in Cairo celebrate their weddings and families in one spot. I throughly enjoyed the flora and walkways and most importantly the meal that sealed the deal at Citadel restaurant. At 45Egyptian pounds it's a steal.Written 9 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- AMsaysThornhill, Canada5,295 contributionsHistoric Cairo, Egypt’s capital was founded in 969 BC by General Jawhar al-Siqillii and grew to absorb nearby ancient older capitals. Today modern Cairo includes many ancient sites and monuments of a complex, storied past. UNESCO has since 1979, declared this city a World Heritage Site because of all these revered sites like Al-Fustat, which includes the Nilometer on Rawdah Island, the Mosque of ‘Amr ibn al-‘As, the Hanging Church, the Ben ‘Ezra Synagogue, the Mosque of Ibn Tulun and the Citadel. Further historical sites include a few Necropolises – Fatimid, al-Imam al-Shaf’I, al-Sayyidah Nafisah and Qaytbay. All I know is, it is a very busy, noisy, dirty, smog filled, crowded, polluted and not very inviting because it takes so long to do anything worthwhile. Plan more time…..Written 28 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Space0neToronto, Canada110 contributionsWe bought the ticket for meal as it’s also skip the line and we plan to have lunch up there anyways.
It was a cloudy day, but the view was still very spectacular as there are no high buildings close by.
It’s also revolving as I don’t think this was mentioned.
However, the Food. Much is left to be desired. Drinks came quickly, the meal was a long wait, agree it was 2 pm but only about 6 people dining there. You would not expect food it to arrive not even luke warm, even the veges. if it was uber, most restaurants do better jobs.
It’s hard to imagine that this restaurant has the concession. We had the duck and ostrich. . Tough and dry.
Service was ok, we were there to enjoy the view, we spent 3 hours sitting there. We paid for that privilege and nothing more.
It was incredibly disappointed. There are places to eat at the bottom, which we did as we were hungry.
Only worth going up if you having a lazy day and didn’t want to do much walking, but drop the thought of nice mealWritten 4 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Before visiting, check the schedule for upcoming shows that align with your interests and arrive early to secure good seats for a great experience.
When visiting the Cairo Opera House, you should dress in a manner that is respectful and appropriate for the occasion. Formal or semi-formal is expected, especially for evening performances.Written 10 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. He wasn’t at any point pushy or trying to swindle us. Felt respected and like our experience was very beneficial and good! Enjoyed talking and learning about the local craft! Strongly recommend this store, and Gouda, as a sales man! Prices seemed a little high for what we were looking for but believe that was because of the increased value of gold.Written 10 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
