What travellers are saying
- good_antsDoha, Qatar681 contributionsWOW, get to "old Cairo" - or 'Coptic' - as it's truly called.
This small area is clean, beautifully (and preciously) maintained, with a number of religious landmarks to learn about.
Plus the history of Cairo - and humankind - comes to life as you stroll the quiet, historic pavement. You're most likely to visit as part of a "Cairo day tour", but you could do this with a guidebook/internet on your own.

Initially they used brick, but stone proved to be more solid. After more than 900 years Bab al Futuh is still in good shape. The gate is supported by two enormous round towers, that perhaps also show off triumph and not just serve a military purpose.Written 21 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Guillermo T7 contributionsThe trip was fantastic. We visited the Alsbaster Mosque and we went shopping on an open market Kan el kalil. The Guide Hazem speaks English very well and he was very kind. Finally we enjoyed a wonderful egyptian meal. Highly recommended.Written 9 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - NICHOLAS TDubai, United Arab Emirates11,103 contributionsThis is an impressive part of Cairo.
It is near the Egyptian Museum and the roads are wide and lined with palm trees and regal looking buildings.
The square itself is centred with an obelisk flanked by statues of sacred animals.Written 1 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Definitely need some research to seriously visit this area, as I'm sure there are many tales and historical gems here.Written 3 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
