No words can describe the experience of doing The Kokoda Trek with Adventure Kokoda. Everything from the start to the end was as perfect as possible, and the support, information and actual trek was absolutely out of this world. I could go on for days but I won't. If you're considering doing Kokoda, then the team at Adventure Kokoda are the only ones to choose! Loved it. Absolutely loved it.

Doing Kokoda is an experience of a lifetime and something you and if you are fortunate to do with friends or loved ones, will never forget. I was fortunate to do it with 9 other mates of whom a lot of us had known each other for over 40+ years. The trek provides an amazing adventure and gives you a great appreciation of what our diggers went through. We were also fortunate to be at Isurava for the dawn service on Anzac Day. The hills, mud, tree roots, swamps, rivers that had to be taken on provided constant challenges that were embraced by all. We were fortunate to have Mick as our tour guide. Mick’s knowledge of Kokoda was amazing, enabling us to really understand all the significant milestones and landmarks which are part of our history. What made the trip amazing was not only the educational part provided by Mick and his team, but the support from him and his amazing team of porters. Our group of porters made sure we were always safe, and nothing was ever too much for them to assist with. It was eye opening to watch how fast they could move up and down hills, always ensuring our safety was the priority as they risked their own.
From the time we woke up in the morning, to the time we went to bed our lovely team at AKT supporting us were always there. The food provided was outstanding with the team making delicious hot lunches and dinners, not to mention our pre-dinner popcorn that went down a treat. The meals were above my expectation given everything had to be carried on the trek. Some highlights outside of the education and experience of Kokoda were meeting people in the villages and having them sing to us, our team of porters also extended their skills to sing to us on several occasions. This being capped off with a special individual moment provided at the war cemetery for all. Something those who choose to do this trip will appreciate and remember forever.
I would encourage anyone planning for a trip either individually or in a group to do it with AKT. Starting in PNG with a pre-trip briefing and dinner in a top hotel, followed by an amazing tour with a great team, then ending where you started with a celebratory dinner. This is an experience you will never forget and will forge in your memory for the rest of your life. Also given you will most likely only do this trek once, if you get the same experience we had with AKT which I know you will, you will be forever grateful.
Thanks to Mick and the team at AKT along with your amazing porters and team on the ground. Thank you for the memories that will last forever, also providing a fantastic educational experience of what our amazing diggers did for us in PNG.

    Thanks Laurence

Amazing!!!! Highly recommend 100% world wide adventure for the Kokoda Track tour.
We had the most amazing experience, from the first inquiry with Cam!
Our guide Andy was great and very knowledgeable and the Porters were absolute angels, couldn’t have done it without them!
Our group of 15 were all great people with plenty of laughs and support from each other along the way.
The track is tough but if you train for it you’ll enjoy it so much more!
The food each day was great and the tents and camp sites at villages along the track were comfortable.
We felt safe the entire time.
We did it over 9 nights (instead of 7 like some other tour groups) which was great as we had time to relax and swim in the rivers and creeks at the camp most afternoons, much better than having to rush through the whole experience.
The Holiday inn at Port Moresby was also great too, very clean, modern and completely safe.
I did the hike with my 14 yr old Son, it was life changing for both of us, 100% recommend you book your trek with 100% Kokoda!!!

Had the best day with Ezekiel and Manu. They were super flexible and took me to the markets, the World War 11 cemetery for Australian soldiers killed in the war (which was very moving) and the Adventure park where we saw different types of birds of paradise, Papuan Hornbills and tree kangaroos. Finished off the day with some bananas from a local market and corn on the cob. Great company. Highly recommended.

If you want someone to organise an off the beaten track trip in PNG, Ecotourism Melanesia can probably do it very well. I wanted to travel to the island where my father was based in WW 2, but it was extremely off the tourist route. After I explained what I wanted to do, Aaron suggested an itinerary, and then made the arrangements through local representatives.
Because of difficulties in communication (e.g a cyclone had damaged phone and internet access), things didn’t always go completely as planned, but arrangements were always in place to solve any issues. Even though the food and accommodation were basic, I had known this would be the situation. I always felt safe and that problems would be sorted. The pre-departure information, itinerary and local reps were great.

With over 800 tribes separated by volcanic ridges, and 1000 languages, Papua New Guinea was the place I was looking forward to the most on our recent cruise. It does have a reputation for crime and violence as the people are stuck between 2 worlds - tribal pasts (in which most still live culturally, 'unemployed' and chewing beetlenut) and the 'western' world, realizing the value of their natural resources and struggling to maintain control. We visited a variety of places with Marimuni Treks with 7 awesome guides who we left feeling really close to. Our day started with a pick up in Port Moresby, The coach seated 20 and was clean and comfortable. We had 1 driver, 1 university educated guide Kero, and 5 other men from various tribes. This gave a great opportunity to learn about each tribe individually and ended up being the best part of the tour! The men were nice and warm, and really wanted to share about their experiences. We spent time at beautiful lookouts (833 meters) in Varirata National Park, viewing narrow accordant volcanic ridges, grasslands, waterfalls, and rainforest. We visited the top national high school in Sogeri and drove through the local villages. We spent some time exploring the local flora and fauna (cassowaries, tree kangaroos, birds of paradise, etc) at the Adventure Park. Walking the somber grounds of the Bomana War Cemetery, we learned more about the WWII history that occurred on the island. We had a western style lunch at a clean, air conditioned mall cafe, and had fun negotiating for authentic crafts at the local market. We ended the day with a visit to the cultural museum, which houses historical tribal weapons, jewelry, clothing, masks, boats and more, and also stores a variety of WWII relic airplanes and machinery. We had any excellent time! Viewing such a variety of places satisfied everyone in our group of 5, but they will organize the tour to suit your desires... But more than anything, after feeling hesitant about the PNG reputation, we were over joyed with our experience of PNG and with our guides. It was exciting and interesting, humbling and inspiring. We didn't want to leave them, and felt as though we had made great new friends... Marimuni Treks was a one-of-a-kind opportunity to visit this unique island and I highly recommend them!!!

Parliment house is a cross of modern and traditional architecture, built in the traditional Long house style of many regions in PNG, with the front decorated in traditional pictures and motifs.
In my opinion this building is one of the most interesting and beautiful government house's anywhere in the world. Situated in the main government are close to forein embasy's, the national library and museum and is surrounded by green lawns and lush gardens.
I dont think they do tours for the general public, and you wont be able to gain access when parliment is on so it might be worth phoning ahead to make sure you can visit. A grand building, it is just above the level of the surrounding land and so stands like a monument overlooking the Waigani area. When your flying into port moresby try and get a look of it out of the plane, as jackson airport is just over the hill and in the flight path.
There is a restaurant inside that caters for diplomats and also a little canteen out the front for workers. A small man made lake at the front is full of barramundi and you are able to feed them with food scraps. Each year they have a competition for the school kids to see who can catch the largest one.

Nice friendly guides, and knowledgeable - Especially in terms of gear, lures, and best spots to try. Overall organisation of the trip was pretty average at best with continuous boat / engine issues, travel hiccups and valuable time lost. Yes we caught fish including Black Bass, and Barramundi, but considering the cost and effort made it really wasn't worth it. Thus I would urge anyone considering Sport Fishing PNG to look elsewhere for a more professional and pleasurable fishing experience.
As a side note, and when asked, it was clear the staff were very reticent and evasive about the company they worked for. Even declining to have a beer with us in the afternoons. In confidence, it appears they're not looked after by their employer whom was not well regarded. Underpaid, overworked, and even exploited staff is our lasting impression which is a shame and left a rather sour note to the trip.
