Oh, what an amazing time I had when I went to Erbil and saw the Citadel! As soon as I stepped into this old city, I was quickly taken back in time, surrounded by the area's rich history and charming charm. Let me tell you about my trip and why I think you should go to this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

As soon as I stepped inside the old walls, I was hit by a unique mix of enticing smells, bright colors, and the lively hum of daily life.

As I walked through the old streets, I was mesmerised by the beautiful buildings. Traditional houses with finely carved walls and archways took me back in time. It made me think of the many generations of people who had lived there.

The center of the Citadel was a nice place to relax and get away from the busy streets.

It is also the perfect location to meet and interact with locals. They are super friendly and will some times come up to you to ask you where you're from.

Tip: try to avoid it on a Friday afternoon it can get crazy busy then. I would visit it from Monday to Thursday or on Sunday. But not during weekend which is on Friday and Saturday like in most Middle Eastern countries.

Majestic Architecture totally wonderful, even people can serve there by applying on their websites.
    Alkafeel.net and Imamalishrine.net

They serve food and accommodation to the needy and who so ever wants to serve the shrine.

I had the privilege of visiting the Shrine of Imam Musa Kazim in Baghdad on September 18, 2024, and it was a profoundly spiritual experience. The shrine, dedicated to one of the revered Imams in Shiite Islam, is a stunning architectural marvel and a serene place for reflection and prayer. The beauty of the shrine's building, combined with the peaceful atmosphere, creates a perfect setting for spiritual solace and contemplation.

The area around the shrine is impeccably clean and well-arranged, further enhancing the experience for worshippers and visitors alike. I particularly enjoyed exploring the vibrant outside market, filled with shops offering various religious items and souvenirs that allow visitors to take home a piece of this sacred journey.

On a logistical note, I found walking around the area a bit taxing, especially since the tram service can get quite crowded. I utilized the Attaba bus service from Karbala to Baghdad, which was affordable and generally good. However, the timing could be unpredictable due to some passengers not following the schedule.

Despite the few challenges, I wholeheartedly recommend visiting the Shrine of Imam Musa Kazim. It is not just a place to see but a site to feel the deep spiritual connection and history that this holy place represents. Whether you are seeking reflection or a deeper understanding of the faith, this shrine is truly a must-visit.

Along with random wanderings through old Baghdad and drinking tea in the traditional tea houses the Iraq Museum was my highlight of Iraq.

I’m never awe struck in museums (although sometimes impressed) but walking into the Assyrian Room here was breathtaking! Gave me a real love for the Iraq of past. This museum equals all the top museums of the world. No café though and a tiny gift shop with old books. As of June 2024 entry for foreigners 25000 dinar.

Please don’t miss this in Baghdad!

This resort has definitely got the right idea. The scenery is stunning and this has the potential to be an international tourist destination for all. The incredible cable car ride to the top (and to the accommodation) really sets the tone of the adventure. Once checked in, you are driven to your cottage up further in the hills.

The cottage is very well equipped and comfortable. Beds are ok and cottages are kept warm and cosy. My only negative for this resort is the interior of the cottages, it needs to be maintained with greater care. There are many marks, imperfections, poor workmanship and a lack of attention to detail across all accommodation. If the cottages were improved, this review would be 5 stars.

Having said that, we had a wonderful time and would love to go back next winter.
