* Important museum dedicated to a prominent dominant figure in Jewish and Israeli history from the 1930s until 1982
* Very well-done presentations, documentations and artifacts of the momentous times and cataclysmic events
* Nice modern architectural building in a super scenic location
* Advanced study and learning center too
CONS
* Visit is by pre arranged and pre booked guided tour, so it's not at the visitor's speed and particular interest
"I VISITED THIS PLACE"...
... because it was near and close to our hotel during our special long weekend visit to Jerusalem.
The museum is located in a very scenic corner overlooking the Old City.
We had to pre-arrange purchasing a timed ticket with no senior discount. We took a guided tour- available in both languages.
It was quite interesting and I enjoyed hearing the history and seeing and even touching the historical artifacts- I sat on the simple couch from his living room and also handled the phones that he used in his Prime Minister's Office (see my photos).
It was a bit frustrating that the pace was that of the tour guide and group, and not my own speed.
WAS IT WORTH THE COST?
Yes
WOULD "I VISIT THIS PLACE" AGAIN?
Once is enough
ADVICE
* Go and learn about the man and the history
* Be aware that it requires pre- booking and that it is a guided tour, which must be requested for EnglishWritten 12 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jeffry bEssendon, Australia13,741 contributionsThe Shrine of the Book houses the Dead Sea Scrolls and other ancient texts. The Shrine of the Book, adjoining the Israel Museum, is constantly dowsed with water. The Scrolls are on display for three months at a time, to prevent light damage. Unfortunately, many visitors ignore the request not to use flashes, which can harm he scrolls.Written 28 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. A mixture of video clips and moving between rooms to learn some of the facts. You are even in the audience of one of the congress meetings at one point.
It was an enjoyable hour or so on a drizzly February day. Not difficult to reach and the light railway will take you back to town.Written 12 March 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ester ZJerusalem, Israel346 contributionsIn the center of Jerusalem it is possible to find a quiet place with a great museum and a restaurant.
It was the home of Anna Ticho and her husband a known eye doctor.
It was good that the place was kept and not converted in the high rising buildings as many in the area.
Even the garden was saved and the gallery as part of the Israel Museum has a permanent exhibition and also temporary exhibits of Israel artist.
The resturant was located in a upper floor, mainly of italian food.
It is also a coffee place to enjoy at all time.
It is possible also to have small group celebrations in a separate room.
The elevator to get to the third floor is small and not always work what is a problem for elderly people. It should be consider to fix it.Written 13 November 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Robert BLancaster, PA47 contributionsIt was a short tour with only one room containing an excavation along with some descriptions. There was also a short movie of a re-enactment that was very interesting and helped to explain the history of the Old City and in particular the hosue itself.Written 26 September 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - niloc36Potomac, MD282 contributionsI don’t know how many tax museums there are in the world, but Jerusalem’s must be up there with the very best! After several score visits to the city, I was looking for something a little different, and this Fit the bill. The one room museum offers a tour of taxation systems in what is now Israel over the last 2000 years. One issue is that all of the signage was in Hebrew; the museum does possess an English translation of the main Descriptions, but the subsidiary ones – – that is the descriptions of actual exhibits – – are all in Hebrew. Still, if you work for the IRS or some fraternal organization you will be in seventh heaven here! I was only slightly amused, but it was not a bad way to spend an hour or so before heading off to Machane Yehuda market for lunch. By the way, the museum does not tax you! It’s free!Written 1 December 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- SharonfromPotomacPotomac, MD207 contributionsI stumbled on this museum after I visited Yad Lakashish. This history behind this museum gives great insight into Lechi, Etzel, and Hagana. These were all resistance groups to the British occupation. It is a self guided tourwith a short movie. I would give it 1-2 hours.Written 10 March 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- A AParis, France33 contributionsA piece of sad history, seen from a point of view that's sadly under reported. It's more a memory and nostalgy trip than a museum, but a very informative and true piece of memory in the making. A recommended and valuable family trip near the Bezalel Academy.
The movie was nice, and the guides (I think volunteers) were helpful and involved. Thanks for the visit!Written 27 September 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
