- Thomas M2 contributionsWe had an amazing tour of the Pamir Highway organized by Tamriz, the trip was memorable and full of many adventures. The weather was chilly in Murghab territory but the rest of the areas the weather was perfect. We were told that May-September is the best period to visit. We didn't have to worry about our GBAO permits as Tamriz got them for us in advance, we didn't have to wait for them. We visited ancient fortresses, such as Qah Qah and Karon in Qalai Khumb and some hotsprings. The nature of this part of the world and the authenticity of the local culture and lifestyle was unique. We really enjoyed the whole trip and if you are looking for a reliable company to organize your tour we highly recommend Tamriz, you can find him on instagram as " pamir_traveltjk ".
The only downside was that you can get dizzy because of the high altitude in some parts, therefore it would be good to get some medication in advance. Enjoy your trip, it is totally worth it.Written 9 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It is a very large museum with so many exhibits on Tajik history and archaeology.
There is a huge reclining Buddha, probably the centrepiece of the museum.
If you like museums, this is the place for you, by far the most extensive collection of any we visited in our week in TajikistanWritten 4 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. So I met with Rohib at the border (2h by taxi from Samarkand), his Whatsapp number is +992931950008, he's friendly and speak english, you can't ask for more 🙂Written 19 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It has beautifully kept paths, tress and flowers with lots of benches to sit at.
Far too hot by day in mid-summer so we waited for sunset to go for a stroll here and in the adjacent Somoni Park.
The place comes alive in the evenings with locals out chatting and strolling. A lovely atmosphere.Written 4 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It's in a great part of the city that really cones alive at night when the locals cone it as the Hest of the day dissipates. By day its good to see too as its set in a park bedecked in beautiful flowers.Written 5 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - JGDynamoCanada2,082 contributionsA man made “sea” in Khujand the reservoir, now officially designated as the Tajik Sea as of 2016. It is part of a designated wetlands or Ramsar site and it is quite large so it gives the impression of an inland sea. Lots of birds for bird-watching enthusiasts and you can swim but most of the public beaches are a bit of a mess and not cared for. Nice place to take a dip on a hot day regardless.Written 18 June 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- TAMAN1951Liberty Lake, WA8,932 contributionsAncient structure reflecting the SilkRoad. Sadly bombed by the Bolsheviks during the revolution but a-lot has been restored.
Really only one main road and a fort higher up.
Worth the time to visit.

It's impossibly sheer at tines with the road snaking along.
Astonishing scenery at times and some charming villages along the way.Written 5 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. As you approach the lake, you’ll be greeted by surreal views that make every mile worth it.
The area around Karakul is sparsely populated, home to small Kyrgyz communities who live in yurts and practice traditional herding. Visitors have the chance to learn about their unique way of life and even experience authentic Pamiri hospitality.
Despite its remote location, Karakul is accessible for travelers and offers basic guesthouses and camping opportunities. Whether you're a photographer, trekker, or someone seeking solitude, Karakul Lake is a must-visit destination in Tajikistan.
