What travellers are saying
- Frances BYorkshire, UK2,700 contributionsI was really keen to visit Faisal Mosque and it certainly didn’t disappoint.
Being non Muslim I was unable to see its interior but the exterior is still a sight to behold.
The location where the mosque sits is beautiful. It has the backdrop of the rolling hills and plenty of trees and gardens encompassing it.
Its image is iconic and striking. It is very modern in design and sits perfectly in its surroundings.
I caught a taxi there. It is located in the F9 sector and not too far from Centaur Mall.
I really enjoyed strolling around the mosque gardens. There were lots of people also enjoying the day and plenty of stall holders selling drinks, ice creams and games to play.
The atmosphere felt vibrant and friendly.
There are plenty of wonderful photo opportunities given to you by the mosque.
Once I had walked around it and spent time just admiring it I chose to walk back to my hotel.
The walk took me past some of the embassies in Islamabad and through small areas of parkland. It was very enjoyable.
The mosque looks beautiful at any time of the day but I also wanted to see it at night lit up. My return visit at night was a little disappointing because the minarets of the mosque weren’t lit. It still looked amazing though.Written 6 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Frances BYorkshire, UK2,700 contributionsI was unable as to the existence of this museum next to the Pakistan Monument. I am so pleased I visited it while I was there.
The entrance fee is 600 rupees for a foreigner which is a bargain.
There was a large queue outside the ticket booth but as they were all one group I was able to pay my entrance fee and walk straight in.
The museum tells the fascinating story of Pakistan through some interesting exhibits. There is a lot of information on offer and it was pleasant to wander around and learn lots of new things.
The museum wasn’t busy and isn’t huge so doesn’t take too long to look round.
In my opinion it is definitely worth a visitWritten 7 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Its name derives from two Persian words which together mean ‘foothills’
Its location is around 2,400ft above sea level and approximately 500ft above Islamabad.
It is a super place for viewing the city. On a good day you can look over Islamabad and get a real sense of the scale and layout of the city. Unfortunately the day I was visited there was a slight heat haze.
In my opinion the best views would be at night when the various areas and landmarks of Islamabad are illuminated.
There are large car parks with nominal fees which then access the gardens and hill walking trails. It’s a lovely place, particularly for a picnic or just to go somewhere slightly cooler than the city.
On the entrance to the gardens and walks are stalls selling drinks, snacks and ice creams and souvenirs. There is also horse riding for 100 rupees and there are monkeys. They were well behaved when I was there because they were enjoying water melons that had been given to them.
I imagine at night and on weekends and holidays this area gets busy. Definitely worth a visit though.Written 7 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Tooba K1 contributionIt was an incredible place to visit, offering a breathtaking view that left me in awe. The scenery was a perfect blend of natural beauty and tranquility. Rolling hills stretched out under a vivid sky, while the gentle breeze carried the subtle scents of blooming flowers and fresh greenery. The colors were so vibrant, from the rich blues of the water to the lush greens of the trees, that it felt like stepping into a painting. The peaceful ambiance made it a haven for relaxation, and I couldn’t help but feel a deep connection to nature in that serene environment.Written 24 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Frances BYorkshire, UK2,700 contributionsRawal Lake is impressive in its size. The day I visited it appeared tranquil and serene.
If you are arriving by vehicle then access to the lake is gained through parking your vehicle in the very large parking areas and then walking down to the lakeside or catching the small land train that shuttles visitors backwards and forwards.
The setting of the park and lake is beautiful. There is a tree lined avenue of Jacaranda trees that looked so pretty.
There are also numerous stall holders selling drinks, snacks and ice creams and games to play. The place has a happy and friendly vibe.
Once you walk to the lakeside edge you are afforded a great view of the lake. There is a covered viewing area and also an open viewing area, all great for photographs.
A big disappointment for me was the rubbish some visitors choose to dispose of in an irresponsible fashion. Litter bins are provided but I did notice litter both in the lake and around the parkland area. I hate seeing litter anywhere, let alone beauty spots like this.
There is lots of parkland to enjoy and many areas covered by tree canopies providing some shade from the sun.
This is a lovely place to visit and stroll around. I was told it is quieter during the day, probably due to the heat and that it is at night that it gets much busier.Written 6 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The Islamabad plan in the shape of map was first made on this hill. One side displays presence of national flag with shinning crescent and star hidden in the green environment. The new appearance of the museum and adjacent park is also nice place to visit.Written 8 May 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - vikskioComblain-au-Pont, Belgium166 contributionsthe museum is at the grounds of a market with local art and traditional clothes, woodwork, paintings etc. especially when there is a exposition/"feria" its a great time to get to see all the local artists and musicians perform. prices are local too, so its a great option to sample anything traditional.Written 25 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
