Located along the scenic Baku Boulevard, the museum is an architectural masterpiece designed to resemble a rolled-up carpet. From the moment you step inside, you’re immersed in the rich heritage of Azerbaijan’s carpet-weaving tradition.
The exhibits are beautifully curated, showcasing various carpets from different regions and periods. Each piece tells a story, with intricate patterns and vibrant colors reflecting the country’s culture, mythology, and craftsmanship. The detailed descriptions of each exhibit add depth to the experience, making it both educational and inspiring.
The museum isn’t just about carpets—it also includes displays of traditional clothing, textiles, and tools used in carpet weaving. There’s even a live demonstration area where artisans showcase the process of weaving, offering a glimpse into the incredible skill involved.
The museum’s layout is spacious and modern, with interactive elements that engage visitors of all ages. The views of the Caspian Sea from the upper floors are a bonus.Written 27 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - farah hDubai, United Arab Emirates5 contributionsIt was a beautiful mosque, and has significant religious importance for Shia Muslims. Highly recommend it. Gorgeous views of the Caspian Sea. The mosque does have a cover up, if clothes are not appropriated. But as it is a religious place, better to wear loose clothes.Written 21 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Richard BEdinburgh, UK5,410 contributionsA great museum with lots of character show casing the good, not so good and thoroughly interesting.
The museum has contemporary art and sculptures at the entrance, then a deep dive into a very ancient world. Moving along through the ages, the beautifully curated works walk you through the history of this fascinating country.
The people and their rich cultural heritage was great to learn about. I didn't feel much love for the Kommunist era. However, that is hardly surprising when an imperial power is imposing an alien, toxic culture.
Moving past an ugly chapter in Azerbaijan history, the people and their story is reasonably well captured in this thoroughly decent museum. The museum itself is a stunning building and retains its period splendour. The museum is in the centre of town and is surrounded by coffee shops and restaurants for a spot of lunch.
Well worth a look.Written 6 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. This market is dedicated to fresh and dried fruits and vegetables, spices, and many types of cheese and fresh meat. You will find some indoor shops and some open-air vendors. The market is good for those who live in an apartment and want to prepare food at home. There are also some antiques and gifts made of ceramics and glass. For me, it was a fun time.Written 11 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

Nice to see the crew rooms, the bridge and the engine.
There's an English language audio guide and a nice English speaking guide also walked around with me for part of it.
10-minute walk from the first oil well and about 20 mins in a cab from town. I walked back from the museum along the coast into the old town - took about an hour or so.Written 16 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
